So, what now? Do the rogue board members team up with the Paternos (or file independently) and hope to get in front of a sympathetic court that will somehow grant them legitimate standing to at least get a restraining order against the sanctions? Regardless of how far they can take this, I have to imagine that Emmert, Ray and those 18 university presidents are absolutely [censored]ing fuming at what they thought was a settled matter.

Penn State is essentially spiraling into some bizarre civil war pitting the Paterno Cult against those hoping to take their lumps and move on as a university. Does Emmert call Erickson and say, "that's it; deal's off the table and it's the death penalty or even complete banishment from the ncaa?"

Just my dos centavos...

It's important to remember that the NCAA is a voluntary organization- PSU is perfectly able to leave it at any time. They could totally go "rogue" or go to the NAIA.

Now, there are obvious consequences with such a decision (such as not being allowed to play any other NCAA programs), but it is a decision that could be made.

As such, it might be interesting to see a court take a look at the "suit" and toss it out based on the (channels inner UBet)- "no one's holding your feet to the fire" ideal. You don't like the sanctions? Leave the group.

ON THE OTHER HAND...

I think that the NCAA might have overstepped themselves procedurally here (by their own admission of "unprecedented" and the change in their typical processes). As such, this suit, combined with the challenges to the NCAA about finances (re: BCS, etc.) could end up being the thing that ends up to its significant reform/termination.

ON THE OTHER HAND...

The Mayans could be right, and this won't matter in four months.

Just when you think these mutants couldn't possibly look any more ridiculous...they chug a sixer of red bull and step up their game. :slappy:

What the [censored] is going on in Rhythmic Slappy Valley? That is supposed to be an institution of higher learning? Lest anybody think we're simply railing (no pun intended) on a rogue group of fanatical message board posters, this is their Board of Trustees. Then there's also the "Framing Paterno" whack jobs. That university has nurtured a cult. It needs to be flushed out with extreme prejudice. I wonder what rational alumni think of their alma mater being made a total mockery of? Because they're already a punchline, and getting goofier every day...

Those people are just crazy.

The NCAA is a membership institution; a club.

Penn State, one member of the club, has accepted a report that suggests a systematic failure (from the president down to the lowly, little, insignificant head football coach) where high ranking folks were aware of a potentially felonious situation that occurred in the football facilities. They also knew that there was an eye-witness to said situation. They did nothing with this information other than talk to each other about it. The conclusion of those who researched the situation said that the failure was due the "culture" and the brand that is Penn State Football. These conclusions were accepted by Penn State.

The NCAA asked Penn State straight up if they chose to accept the report as it is, and submit it in lieu of actual investigation by the NCAA. Penn State said yes.

Due to Penn State's acceptance of the sequence of events, at least 18 other members of that club that is the NCAA have said that Penn State should be banned from football activities for more than one year due to the "culture".

Emmert asks for, and receives from other members of the club, permission to skip the "due process" since Penn State wanted the NCAA to accept the findings in the Freeh Report in lieu of an actual investigation. He then administers punishment that would help the "culture" de-emphasize football, but still allow them to field a team. He decided to be nice and not kill the program even though other members asked for it.

Now a couple of idiots on their BOT who feel one man (who is obviously is so much greater than the university itself in their eyes) are trying to file a federal lawsuit that should be quickly thrown out of any court in this land.

Again, these people are crazy.

I really wonder how much the NCAA is willing to tolerate from these cultists...the Paterno family was a single fly, easily dismissed. The rally around the football team and circling of the wagons is probably problematic and a bit more annoying. Now you BOT members threatening a (likely useless) lawsuit and claiming the NCAA was wrong. That's most definitely annoying and beyond even fly swatter deserving. This is escalating to bug bombing an infestation, cover furniture and clean out the house for extreme fumigation/heat treatment levels.

And in this analogy, the imposed sanctions were basically me spraying Ortho Home Defense around the perimeter of my house.

What's funny is we were all waiting for the guy (can't remember his name) who is overseeing their "probation", to bring down Happy Valley.

Looks like we may not have to go that far as their own BOT is doing his job for him

How much is the NCAA going to put up with before they get totally pissed and nuke that football program for multiple years? When they see members of the BOT talking appeals and lawsuits, it must really twist their tail! I'm beginning to think the NCAA underestimated the Cult following.
Softness just will encourage bad behavior from these mutants. There can be only one outcome.
Drop the bomb, Emmert!
Nuke that mutant football cult.

Instead of saying the BOT is doing this we should probably get used to calling this the "rogue" BOT because at some point the "real" of the BOT is going to react. Players and scorecards will become an issue.

I wonder if the non-rogue BOT has the balls to step up and shout down the Nitwits trying to piss off the NCAA? A BOT Civil War is inevitable. More fun and games! :tongue2:
