Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

He's right. the Sandusky scandal isn't on par with Tattoo-Gate.

It's way worse.

But let's compare the situations.

Tressel knew about the tattoo issue. We have emails that prove that.
Paterno knew about the child rape issue. We have emails that prove that.

Tressel signed something stating he didn't know of any NCAA violations (players receiving gifts in this case)
Paterno signed the same document stating the same thing (moral and ethics clauses in the NCAA bylaws)

So that being said, they are the same. Ohio State's issue occurred over one year's time. Therefore the sanctions were given as 1 year ban. So it's only fair that since Penn State's issue occurred over 14 years, they should have received a 14 year ban. Since they want to compare apples to apples, they got off extremely lightly.
Except that Penn State's cover-up included not only the head coach, but also the athletic director, the chief of campus security, and the school president, so maybe they should have received 14 years for each co-conspirator, or 56 years total. And that's not even considering the magnitude of the acts that were covered up.

If PSU were to challenge the sanctions I can only see them taking one of two positions:

1. We did not enable the rape of children.

2. Your penalties for enabling the rape of children are too severe.

However, the NCAA did not accept the Freeh report as NCAA findings. Penn State accepted the Freeh report and presented it to the NCAA as PSU findings. So until PSU takes on its own report they must accept its conclusions. Leaving them only option 2.

Of course, they could play the game that Erickson was not authorized to accept the penalties. In which case the NCAA can promptly present them with the promised two year death penalty - and I can't see who would oppose it given that PSU would be clearly asking for it.

No fun being on the PSU BOT right now. But what the heck, let's stir the pot. Let those kids who are considering transferring think that they might not be playing football at all and see what happens.

Personally, I think the #1 item on that meeting agenda is to convince all BOT members to STFU.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here but I think PSU President Erickson is already in trouble with the BOT. This could be very entertaining!!!!!
Sure, Ped State! [censored] off the NCAA even more! I think Ped State is going to go all postal and take their football and go .....um....somewhere!

PSU presented the Freeh Report to the NCAA as PSU's response to the NCAA letter of inquiry. This was approved by the BOT who commissioned the report. Your cumbersome BOT, 32 members, abdicated on removal of the statue and said Erickson had authority. The question is do you want to take your medicine and bounce back in 5 years or do you want to invite the NCAA back in to talk with Tripponey about other discipline issues with the football team. Remember the Freeh Report did not go there, it just addressed the Sandusky issue. You entered a plea agreement and got off short of the death penalty. Do you now want a new trial on all the issues? Oh BTW wins were vacated back to 1998 not 2008. The president and the chairman of of the board had apparent authority to enter into the agreement as leaders of a member institution of the NCAA. Ponder the words "member institution" that means that you are bound by the terms of the contract that you signed with the NCAA. As an outsider I say take your medicine, tell the Paternos to shut up, never erect another statue of someone who is still alive and move on. Programs can be rebuilt. If you re-open this can of worms, the gloves are off and a multi year death penalty could await.

There are some others as well. Someone also threw out the theory that the Paternos and Lubrano have collaborated to take back the school. Some funny stuff over there.

Here is the bold theory:

Ed Zontar
This is a coordinated effort by certain trustees (Lubrano) and "Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship." a Paterno-family connected group of dead-enders whose goal is to overthrow the board and stack with their own Paterno family-selected hacks.

They have been sending out e-mail alerts all afternoon encouraging their drones to pressure the board by e-mail.

A coup attempt? Could be. If it is successful, the university will be destroyed. Permanently.

...and the sad thing is the Paterno's really dont care

Oh they care VERY VERY much. Especially about those vacated wins. The Paternos are used to having Penn State by the balls. They thought by getting their three stooges elected to the board by the alumni-sheep they might have a chance.

This is their big chance, to try and force Erickson out. He tore down their sacred, ugly statue after all.

We should all hope that they fail, if we want the university to have any hope of survival. This would be the death blow as far as the world outside the narrow vision of the PaterNuts.

No [Mark May] right? UVa's athletic department is on par with Ped State and their academics are at least on par as well if not better IMO.

An old gf went there for her doctorate. She says that grad and research would be top third in the Big Ten, and undergrad would be ahead of Michigan and maybe even Northwestern.

You mean THIS GUY isn't the voice of reason.

BTW, I have to admit that Mack_Daddy has totally taken his game to a new level. He's hands down the bat sh!t craziest guy on that board. I don't think there can be much argument anymore, and I voted for Sgt Carter.

Obviously I wasn't being 100% serious. However, remember the NCAA could only rule off of the coverup, not what they were doing. So the magnitude of the acts being covered up would not have mattered. Just the fact that they were doing it.
