That's not enough, IMO. If PSU wants to show real remorse and respect for the victims, Joeped's entire image will be removed, along with that stupid statue that the BoT said would stay up for the time being, thus giving the collective finger to basic human decency.

I disagree with their conclusions about this being above the NCAA's pay grade and here's why: they are thinking like I did at first when this tragic story broke that the topic facing the NCAA is child rape. That's not true. That part is for the legal system. The topic facing the NCAA is how the institution dealt with the crimes. The crimes could be stealing bubble gum from the campus store. it doesn't really matter for the purposes of the NCAA. but how did the PSU administration deal with it? well, we see that they covered it up, that the football program repeatedly influenced the President and head of security and law enforcement on campus, and in separate cases the football program influenced the general student discipline program for preferential treatment. Those are all indicative of loss of institutional control.

If, as it appears that the crimes were committed as a result of the 4 fools trying to protect the football program from bad publicity, then logically it sounds like that leads to NCAA rules violations. Actions to prevent recruits from going elsewhere because of bad publicity to gain a competitive advantage they wouldn't have had otherwise.
And there is the handling of football players punishments differently than the general student population. Competitive advantage? Maybe.
We did see what happened to recruits bailing when the [Mark May] hit the fan.
I think the NCAA will find plenty to punish the football program with.This stuff has been going on for years.

I listened to this live last Fall, but listening to it again, it's funny how apt or correct Howard Stern was in the Fall (w/o knowing all/any of the details).

He got JoePa and the Penn State students correct immediately (w/o knowing any details).

He was calling for a self-suspension of the football program and, in the absence of that, seemed to think the NCAA would drop the death penalty on the Peds.

Bob Costas on Meet the Press? Wow.

Anyone who takes a long term look at PSU as one of the top 100 universities in the world (as they were recently rated by one source) has to agree with what he said.

The BOT made a courageous call in bringing in Freeh. We will know by 1 September if they understand that report or if they are in over their heads.

And as for the mutants and their "blame list", if you're football program is being discussed on Meet the Press in a negative light you no longer have the luxury of waiting for additional "facts".
