You must have missed the memo. The senior leadership of the ref fund decided earlier in the year to divert some of the excess funds to other teams so they could screw State Penn as well. After all the shitty kitties believe the whole Big Ten is out to screw them so we might as well make their wish a reality....

Up by 1, you have the ball on the opponents 14 yard line, 1:44 to go, and opponent has only 1 time out; just take 3 knees and win the game. The only way you can lose is if the opponents get the ball back, score a TD, convert a 2 point conversion, and win in OT. So you score and give it back to them.

Apparently you don't have to be real smart to play/coach at Penn State:

No coach in their right mind takes a knee in that scenario. You take a knee when you don't have to give the ball back. In this case, you just run and try to get a first down.....but you tell your players to not score and more importantly not to fumble.

Obviously the timing isn't exact, and Michigan wasn't going to let us score from that far away.....but here's a fun example to re-live.






edit: wait......why was the clock running before that play? that play was immediately after the recovery of the onside kick.
