Does the BOT really think that the best way to help PSU is to blame Joe? Reply
Do they think that the school would be subject to minimal damage because they fired Joe and now he's dead?

Here's a message for the BOT. Blame this on Joe and the PSU brand is tarnished forever. Joe was a symbol for everything that was right about college football. PSU football players were generally more respectful and graduated at a higher rate than most other universities. Success with Honor didn't come out of the engineering program. The library has Paterno's name on it. Blaming Paterno hurts PSU irreparably.

Didn't these guys ever watch Miracle on 34th Street? The judge knew better than to rule that there was no Santa Claus. They could learn from judge Henry X. Harper.
Sure, lets all do this...

At least they are finally putting together that the reputation of their school, their football program, and Dear Leader are irreparably damaged and tarnished forever.

Now if they can just make the final connection that it was Dear Leader's fault, and most importantly, that nothing they do or say to defend Dear Leader will ever restore his reputation or that of the school, they would be making real progress.

It would be a real miracle if they eventually came to realize that the cult like worship and defense of one man and his legacy created the disgusting environment that directly led to the abhorrent actions in the first place.

Well, yeah. And that should excuse all of the questionable, to downright unethical, things he did. Duh.
You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both, and there you have... your coaching buddy raping kids in showers for a couple of decades.

Interesting how actions on one side of life's moral score sheet can be definitive, but not the other.

Maybe they should develop an equation to show exactly how effective this program was. One molested child = X graduated football players. Maybe if they'd molested all the kids, they'd have nothing but Rhodes Scholars coming out of the program.

I have a feeling that those stellar graduation rates might come into focus once everything is gone through. Keeping a lid on things and keeping his players (especially the "stars") eligible was numero uno on Dear Leader's list, BOT and regulations be damned!!!

Think General Studies at Michigan, but without an actual attendance requirement.

I read a pretty good account on the Pitt board of how JoePed used some administrative gimmick to transfer players who weren't going to graduate to a branch campus for their last semester. This resulted somehow in their not counting against his grad rate.

It doesn't seem possible and easily detected. But, OTOH, if the ncaa didn't want to expose their poster boy for doing things right, maybe they turned a blind eye........or they maybe just didn't want to ruin anybody's weekend.

Anyone with a Rivals account want to ask PITT fan, I'm sure they'll be happy to give the details.

When you don't self report, do any and all discipline in house (whether it is a student code issue or felony worthy), and brainwash everyone involved with the "Success with Honor" mantra bullshit, then it is hard for the NCAA to have, or even get, cause to go in and investigate.

I wouldn't put ANYTHING past Joe when it came to how he managed his public perception. He was a master of illusion which was enabled by the wall of white t-shirt wearing cultists.

THEY ARE...............FUCKING DELUSIONAL!!!!!

Exactly! At least he's no Switzer or Bowden...... Truth be told, when this is all said and done, wouldn't surprise me if JoePa's the dirtiest coach of them all.

Not being investigated/convicted doesn't mean you're innocent.

I would not be surprised. I don't think anyone outside of the cult would be surprised.

Re: The only thing that bothers me on the Paterno side of this... Reply
Here's how I would view it... Joe was quite possibly the most morally good person that ever coached and that ever will coach. His concern for the individual is unmatched by anyone. What Joe did was to build the framework for moral decisions in both coaching and life in general. He invited others to be a part of that moral framework. Many came and many lived up to the values that Joe established. Unfortunately some did not. They chose a different path all the time claiming to adhere to the value system that Joe established. They were basically living a dual life. Joe's only mistake was trusting that JS, Spanky, GS and others were capable of living up to his value system. They were not and that's why we have this current situation.

Unless that individual is a ten year old boy being ass raped in his showers. Then he couldn't even be bothered to try and find out who he was.

I actually heard this, but not from a Pitt fan. One of my friend's who went to FSU and worked in PA said this was common knowledge. Joe wanted to maintain his squeaky clean image by any means. The branch campuses were basically filled with people that would harm Joe Pa's saintly image. Had to eep them away from main campus.
I wasn't here for the whole Tressel ordeal so I don't know how people feel here about him, but I always thought Jim was classier then Joe Pa even before this Ped State story broke.

Hey, man, you don't talk to the Colonel. You listen to him. The man's enlarged my mind. He's a poet warrior in the classic sense. I mean sometimes he'll... uh... well, you'll say "hello" to him, right? And he'll just walk right by you. He won't even notice you. And suddenly he'll grab you, and he'll throw you in a corner, and he'll say, "Do you know that 'if' is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you"... I mean I'm... no, I can't... I'm a little man, I'm a little man, he's... he's a great man! I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across floors of silent seas...

Looks like State Penn is circling the fiscal wagons...

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State received more than $208 million in donations for the fiscal year that just ended, the second-highest total in university history despite the upheaval after the arrest of Jerry Sandusky on child sex abuse charges.

The school said Monday there was a slight uptick in the number of alumni who donated money or gifts in the fiscal year that ended June 30 to more than 75,500, reversing two years of declines.
