Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

In all of this, my warm feeling continues to be fed by the discussion on the TSUN boards. Conflicted they are and worried they are about what the Silver Bullets are gonna do to them.
Bad things man, bad things… :sneaky:

I think they SHOULD be worried.
However, I saw a lot of positivism (it's a word, now, damn it!) about their new quarterback. I mean, the guy torched Rutgers for about 35 points.

Changing topics back to Penn State, I've noticed that the fans seem to have gone from "Hey, remember how we used to be happy about becoming bowl-eligible?" to "Well, at least we're bowl-eligible."

Discussing whether Barkley should still win the Heisman.

upload_2017-10-30_14-0-54.png

He has 3 100-yard games so far. Sure, he's been doing a really good job receiving out of the backfield, but I don't think it's good enough to win a Heisman. I'm not going to argue his overall quality as a player, but if you want your running back to win a Heisman, you needed to get him 20+ touches EVERY game. Just looking at rushing and receiving touches, I see three games where he got 20 touches: Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio State. Beef up those numbers against Pitt, Georgia State, and maybe Indiana, and you've got a little bit of something to stand on. Not much to stand on, looking at how he did against Ohio State (Mili posted all of his runs in one thread or another - not a Heisman performance), but you need to get him those magic 100-yard games.

Barkley will get support throughout the country.

Barrett won’t get much support outside of Ohio.

Unless Barkley.....and Penn State.....falls flat on their face, it’s his.

IllinoisLion forgets that the Big Ten voters will never vote for Penn State for anything.

In his team's biggest game of the year, against their highest ranked opponent, with a division title and probable playoff spot on the line, Barkley shit his pants. How does that get overlooked because he rushed for 172 against Akron?

38% of his rushing total and 52% of his receiving total came against Akron, Pitt and Georgia State

The stats bear out the knock on him (and for the record I think he's one hell of a back) and that is the inconsistency. He can be taken away completely for long periods of time and for full games. Most of his damage is done in one long run/reception after many no gain/losses.

I was SO close to giving up..
I'm glad I didn't.

If 2016 taught us anything, it's that PSU will go to the Playoff if they win out.

OSU had an embarrassing loss to OK at home and then beat #2 PSU at home on a fluke. It took a blocked punt and Barrett channeling John Elway in the 4th qtr. Barrett played out of his mind and will never repeat that again. He just doesn't pass the "look test" as a QB.

If PSU wins out, the committee must rank PSU ahead of OSU in playoff consideration.
I too tire of hearing about our "fluke" win last year. Every osu fan describes last years loss as a fluke due to a blocked kick....so I guess using their logic this must also be a FLUKE win, by only one point. Checkmate.
Stats do lie. Where do you put a 97 yard TD kick return, a 62 yard kick return, and a 35 yard fumble return? One is a lost possession. The other two created short fields. They don't count?
Yeah, because we know that all of those were going to result in touchdowns...
But I only ask for consistency. OSU got ROUTED by OK at home. PSU lost by 1 to OSU on the road on a fluke - (blocked punt and Barrett). It is commonly said that home field is about a 6-7 point advantage, so on a neutral field, PSU is the better team.
If the committee wants to remain consistent in applying their standards and logic, if both PSU and OSU win out, they must select PSU ahead of OSU for the playoff.
Losing by 2 touchdowns is, apparently, the definition of "routed"..
Here's the straight "garbage" wexford. PSU won the B1G last year. If a conference isn't capable of determining who it's best team is, what good is the conference? End.of.story.

There is no doubt that PSU was the better team over the final 8 games of the season and the committee is charged with putting the "4 best" teams in.
They chose 2nd best based on BS logic b/c it was the preferred outcome.
They're still pissed about this.
Ha - this reminds me of my favorite Gameday sign: "I was going to make a joke about the playoffs, but Penn State wouldn't get it." The interviewer didn't get the joke.

They don't even realize that they were outplayed for pretty much the whole game outside of the opening kick. They were given gift after gift after gift. If not by us, then by the refs. They still couldn't win. This is not like last year just because a kick was blocked you fucking morons. In both games you were given gifts and lucky bounces and shitty calls in your favor. In one, you pulled a win out of your ass.....in one, you couldn't.

See you for a big bad white out next year without your entire offense.

lol cracks me up they say they pretty much owned the game until we blocked a kick and JT went nuts...

we allowed a kick 6, a turnover and a 60 yard KO return set up two 23 yard scoring drives for them, we had a PI call that negated a touchback (which they later scored on), and we had that INT over turned to a TD for them (which may have been the correct call but how do you over turn it).

By my counts that's 35 of their points were GIFTED to them. This probably is more like a 40-10 game if we just don't screw it up.

All of that isn't even counting the killed two drives we had by penalties (one of which was a holding that negated a long throw into their territory).

Outgained 530-280 but yeah you totally owned us all game. Dumb fucking child raping enablers.

Part of my joy was that they didn't get the satisfaction of the win. Most of it was for our guys who deserved it but then some of it was because they deserve to be miserable for even having a program.

Re: Barkley and 20 touches ~ maybe he just doesn't have the stamina. Would love to see his stats for the 4th quarter. Mentioned this in the Game Thread the final (5) minutes ped looked like they were paralyzed. Part of it was psychological thinking up by (15) hey this game is over and probably switched to cruise control.

Sadly I believe the exact same thing happened to the Buckeyes last year against ped ie up by 14 entering the 4th qtr, dominating game stats they basically phoned it in.

The big difference ped had no reason to be overconfident other than stupidity as the Buckeyes were dominating the game except for turnovers/st.

>

Remember ped winning last year propelled them to basically blow out their remaining opponents. Expect the Buckeyes to do the same as in take no prisoners!
