Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

The NCAA should suspend all PSU football operations, effective indefinitely. The Big 10 should begins taking steps to remove PSU effective immediately. Spanier, Curley & Shultz should all go to prison with Sandusky.

The victims who were brave enough to come forward and testify should be awarded multi million dollar settlements. This money should come from the Sandusky and Paterno estates, as well the PSU general fund. No new victims should be given anything, in my opinion. Once the checks start being written, there will be a lot of people coming out of the woodwork, looking for their share.

I understand the 'Nuke Penn State' sentiment, but shutting down their program would also entail a great penalty on the rest of the teams in the conference in terms of lost revenue.

Perhaps. But continued association with PSU muddies the reputation of the rest of these teams. The revenue will be there, no matter whether PSU is a Big10 member or not.

so let's offer Pitt a membership and kick PSU to the curb.

I have no problem with handing out punishments to the individuals involved in the cover up - especially at the top of the school and athletic departments, but reducing their football program to SMU status seems to me to be a bit of cutting off the nose to spite the face.

Pitt? A rather huge difference in stadium size, average attendance, TV appeal/market and history. Pitt plays fourth or fifth fiddle in Steeler town. In a down year - and the Panthers have a number of them - you'd do well to get 40K for a game against the Buckeyes and 20K for Indiana.

A punishment like that would also establish a legal precedent for the conference, something that could some day be turned against Ohio State.

I think we'd better be careful in what we wish for.

I'm not sure what you are saying here cinci. Sure if they get a big penalty it could be a problem for the rest of the conference. So what is the BIG to do..sit by and wait? This a huge embarrassment to the BIG already..and their fanbase doen't seem to understand it. Jesus.....what if this would open the door for ND as a football only school? I think the BIG needs to be a lot more proactive at this stage of the game so we not going to be left holding the check at the end of all of this.

And a DB leaves PSU.
Derrick Thomas has left the program for personal reasons.

Not really...simply replace PSU with another B1G team. Yeah, teams other than us and Michigan wouldn't be able to match the home attendance of PSU and thus the resulting revenue for team playing there, but it wouldn't be that much...and it would only be four B1G teams per year as long as PSU was shut down.
