Football aside there is no doubt he transformedReplya farm college into a nation university.

I don't measure him on his football impact alone.

So what penalty would cause the biggest melt down among the cultists?

If PSU was covering up other things that are NCAA violations, then the penalty that would hurt the most would be vacating enough wins so Paterno is no longer the leader.

That would kill them. Their entire identity is wrapped up in that "record".

punishing PSU harshly...i.e. death penalty....would certainly provide a deterrent for other institutions to reference when they're policing their own programs and setting up processes for institutional control

If PSU is allowed to put this behind them quickly, then there wasn't really much of a punishment at all. That would send a horrible message.

People engage in cover-ups not institutions. The people involved are being or have been punished. Paterno's legacy is irreparably damaged. Administrators are going to be convicted. The pedophile will spend the rest of his miserable life in prison.

I don't see why it makes sense to tear down the institution or futher punish people, including players, that had nothing to do with it.

I doubt the"death penalty" is really on the table. That being said, they could get hit with something like a USC series of penalties for several years of scholarship reductions and a multi year Bowl ban. That's what I suspect will happen. Could they vacate wins? I suppose they could add that, too.
I hope the NCAA "bends them over" for a good ream job.

This is totally different than your typical "LOIC" case. It's 100% criminal, and was committed by a handful of morally bankrupt men. I don't think there's a need to create a "deterrent" because I cannot imagine there are that many monsters out there evil enough to cover something of this magnitude up like these lunatics did.

I don't know that the ncaa, necessarily, has any place here. However, I would like to see the B1G boot their sorry asses out, and accrediting agencies involved too. If the main concern is punishing those involved, and the blind cultists that worship Paterno, they'll be suitably punished. JoePa's legacy is already seriously tarnished, but I have a feeling once everything comes out, there will be no denying what he was. Even the mouth breathers defending him to the grim end will be faced with the truth. That will ruin them.

while I agree it's not your typical LOIC case, it is still a pure example of LOIC. The handful of men looks to have included all the assistant coaches, the facilities personnel, and a large group of boosters.

LOIC doesn't have to pertain to control over recruiting or player benefits, it can include failure to have proper control and monitoring processes within the FB and the athletics program.

This is an unusual but pure example of LOIC.

well....as long as random goober messageboarder says so.....

Love how that poster totally ignores the whole pile of evidence of Pedo State lieing to the NCAA and covering this up. Plus the testimony of Dick Anderson and other assistants showering with boys. God I hope State College and the cultists burn.

I don't support forcing current players, who did nothing wrong, to pack up and move on to another town and institution. I don't see the benefit in that ... to anybody.

I do. It sends a strong message to the athletic department and the administration that football is not the untouchable omnipresent entity they think it is. How about SMU's death penalty? Most of those players had squat to do with what got them the penalty...
