Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I'm not big on the troll accounts either. The cult can make themselves look horrible all on their own. I like knowing that the stupid thing I just read actually came from a stupid person. Then I see it's one of those guys and just pretend it didn't exist.

edit: although I'm a big fan of using a troll account to create a rally and make them all look like doofuses. that is perfect troll account usage.

If our university ever commits crimes as heinous as Paterno and his cronies did and the mass of alumni and fans continue to support them and argue for their rehabilitation four years later, then we would most certainly deserve such treatment.
Look, I get it. There are several cult fools out there, but it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff when you do that. At BWI, it's all chaff, but you muddy the waters taking off that board. I'm not making excuses for anything that happened there, or the outrageously cultish behavior. But increasing That behavior outside the insular walls of the echo chamber doesn't seem particularly helpful either.

Ok, then I guess the worst of our fanbase should be created as trolls to make us look like idiots too?
Quit overcompensating. Why do you always act like being a fan of Ohio State is something to be ashamed of? As for the toll accounts, they draw attention to a real problem & eventually bring the real nutjobs out to show their true colors.

Yes they do draw attention to real problems which is why I see the value on their own forum. I'm not losing any sleep over this, I'm just saying that I don't think it helps on another board.

And don't be Ridiculous, i'm not overcompensating for anything. There are Buckeye fans who are completely obnoxious, I wouldn't want parodies of them parading around either.

The difference is that when other Buckeye fans act like asses, we generally call them on it. That doesn't happen with Ped State - anyone who tries gets run out on a rail.

Humor me for a minute. What is PSU like as a university?
I know they cured cancer and all that bull[Mark May]. But where does it rank in comparison to the rest of the B1G's powerhouse schools.
I suspect due to it's size (and Pennsylvania's relative wealth), it's well funded and has all of the trademarks of the land grant schools (nice hospital, big law school, good engineering school....etc).

Do your best to try and ignore the whole JoPah fiasco. Is Penn State a good undergrad university?

If you look at a list of America's land-grant institutions, there is a rather strong correlation between (1) the overall quality of the school and (2) the population of the corresponding state.

Penn State fits the larger correlation, it's not an outlier.

Penn State does need to do better work in making tuition more affordable. Tuition ranks among the highest of America's public Universities. I'd prefer that Penn State, given it's mission statement as a land-grant institution, concentrate more on "providing an affordable education" vs. "trying TOO hard to increase its ranking in the USNW&R rankings (and such)." We're not Northwestern or Michigan. Land-grant schools are not supposed to be.

And let's all remember that a slew of the most demented trolls on that site are all different personalities of a singular poster....

Followed by the self-important mongoloids like DavidM, McAndrew, Lubrano, etc etc etc....these guys are completely capable of doing/saying/sharing/creating stupid shit all on their own

Actually, Berkeley is a land-grant school.

They follow a different academic model than every other B1G school. They have 20+ branch campuses that accept anyone with a pulse or HS diploma. In the old days, students with modest HS grades would attend the branch campus for 2 years and transfer to the main campus for the last 2 or 3 years. But now you can get a full degree from any branch campus. The quality of the education is marginal and more like a JUCO than an accredited university. The main campus is middle of the pack B1G academically. Strong engineering and earth sciences programs. No on campus medical school and they "bought" Dickinson Law and re-branded it as PSU so they could have a law program. The medical school is in Hershey, PA about 100 miles away
