Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I disagree. I mean not about the Clery Act, but the NCAA could conceivably, say, revoke the IA status of Penn State and force them to, say, follow the Division III model for all athletic programs. This would have far-reaching consequences, because even if the school survived whatever came from the Clery Act, it would completely change the entire structure (mainly, no athletic scholarships) of how the University competes athletically from then on, because only the NCAA could let the return to D1 if they ever saw fit to do so. That would sweepingly change everything at any University it happened to.

A statement issued by a group called Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship:

Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship (PS4RS), a grassroots group of alumni, students and supporters, strongly condemned and disavowed recent public statements by Keith Masser, Vice Chairman of the University's Board of Trustees, and asked for his resignation.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Keith Masser, claimed he was speaking for himself and not the board at large, and said he wants to be careful not to draw premature conclusions. He then went on to draw the following premature conclusion, "It now appears like top administrative officials and top athletic officials were involved in making the decision to not inform the proper authorities," and then went on to purportedly speak for the board, "from a board standpoint it was Judge Freeh's investigation that found these emails that relate Spanier, Curley and Schultz to the suspected cover-up."

Has Gary Levitt & Co ever issued an official statement strongly condemning and disavowing the actions of Tim Curley & Gary Schultz in trying to cover up Penn State University's connections with serial child rapist Gary Sandusky?

The NCAA may or may not do anything to Penn State. But think about this for a second... How many kids did they recruit through the years under the guise of being morally above everyone else? How many of those kids would have gone there had they know what was being covered up for years. How many wins did that equal through those years? How about the fact that both Paterno and McQuerey signed off on 2011 form letter to recruits stating that PSU was not like all the "others" (cheaters). With the inference being of "others" being rule violators like OSU. When that letter was written both were fully aware that the Sandusky investigation was coming to a head and that they had been keeping everything under wraps for at least 14 years. And yet they stilled tried to play some moral superiority card. Pure arrogance.

This was a case of "protect the brand at all costs" and that perception gave them a competitive advantage. If the NCAA is truly interested in curbing things like competitive advantage they would go after Penn State with everything they have. They won't but they should.

I did agree until the Dick Anderson testimony or whatever his name was. When he said that other members of the coaching staff showered with boys that made it much more disturbing. Should launch NCA investigation and if they find his statement truthful then that is lac of institutional control and death penalty should be applied.

Penn State officials' hearing set for July 11 in Sandusky perjury case

A judge has scheduled a 1 p.m. hearing July 11 for Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, the two former Penn State administrators charged with lying to a grand jury investigating child sex abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky.

Schultz, the former university Vice President, and Curley, the Athletic Director on administrative leave, are also charged with failing to report allegations of child abuse. Both men maintain their innocence.

Dauphin County Judge Todd Hoover also set an Aug. 1 deadline for the Attorney General's office to turn over evidence to the defendants. Curley and Schultz have until Sept. 17 to file pre-trial motions.

Earlier this month, prosecutors alleged Schultz "created, maintained and possessed" a secret file on the university's investigation into allegations that former football coach Mike McQueary reported seeing Sandusky with a boy in a locker room shower. Documents in the file are inconsistent with statements Curley and Schultz made to the grand jury, prosecutors allege.

Schultz's attorney said there was no secret file.
