Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I fail to see how this is anything but a condemnation of JoePa following the revelations coming out of the Sandusky trial.

Obviously, that is not how it will be viewed by most of the Penn State faithful.

It is unfathomable to me that JoePa can be viewed as the deity of their program (which I think is clearly the general gist of that picture) but somehow they still manage to convince themselves that he did everything in his power but was unable to stop the molestation of little boys right under his nose.

You covered up the scandal because he did, it says so right in your tribute to him.

And yet those same people say what Jim Tressel did was inexcusable... Sub humans.

I was thinking about throwing in how much more I appreciate the "Ohio State is bigger than one person" reaction to the Tressel firing in light of the cult fanaticism surrounding JoePa's exit and the depraved Sandusky embarassment.

One of the old timers will have to confirm, but was there a rush to defend Woody upon his firing? Hell, all he did was punch a kid in the face.

May "Ohio State is bigger than one person" live on forever and prevent Ohio State from experiencing anything even close to resembling the cult induced freak show they've got going on in Happy Valley.

I never saw a single message board post that defended Woody back then. :wink2:

I was around back then. I couldn't believe when I heard he had been fired. I remember everyone was shocked.

What was the question again?

as much as it might apply, the ncaa will not get involved in this

No, and I don't have much of a problem with that.

The AAU, the Association of American University Professors and any relevant accrediting agencies whose jurisdiction Ped Aggy falls under should definitely get involved at how that carnie college has been run.

i don't think the ncaa should dip its fingers into legal matters, but this whole situation breaks the mold for anything that's ever come before it. you have coaches and athletic directors covering up child molestation occurring in athletic facilities on campus.

but if a coach buys a kid a slice of pizza, the ncaa reigns down hellfire. so i can see why some would want them to drop the death hammer.

I think the NCAA feels like it must get involved because it's such a high profile case involving athletics. (the cover up)
They will have their say in this also because they are getting so much "help" from the FBI and the trial of Sandusky. It makes their job a lot easier.
And there's also the fact they commented early on this fiasco means it has their attention.

The NCAA will only get involved if the criminal or federal levels fail to accomplish the task. The NCAA's penalties won't mean a damn thing if Ped State gets slapped with the Clery Act.

I disagree. I mean not about the Clery Act, but the NCAA could conceivably, say, revoke the IA status of Penn State and force them to, say, follow the Division III model for all athletic programs. This would have far-reaching consequences, because even if the school survived whatever came from the Clery Act, it would completely change the entire structure (mainly, no athletic scholarships) of how the University competes athletically from then on, because only the NCAA could let the return to D1 if they ever saw fit to do so. That would sweepingly change everything at any University it happened to.
