During the 1998 investigation of Sandusky, Freeh found an email that said "coach is anxious for any news on this." Paterno also cut his vacation short during the investigation. The cult not only refuses to believe that "coach" was Paterno, they have now determined that he cut his vacation short because the waters off North Carolina were murky that week and Paterno couldn't go scuba diving. There's no reasoning with these people, and they'll never open their eyes to what he was. He and his success with honor bull[Mark May] were the only thing in these people's lives.

Damn those murky waters not only ruining people's weekends... but also their vacations.

I don't put much stock in academic rankings... but we all know how BWI obsesses over being better than everyone else academically.
Perhaps the inner turmoil and insanity is finally costing them some prestigious Professors and/or donations?

I don't have year-over-year numbers or anything like that, but I believe PSU donations have actually gone up post scandal. The reason I say that is because every once in a while there will be a thread on BWI complaining about the "lemmings" donating to a school run by such an evil/incompetent BoT. What usually follows in such a thread is post after post of Cult members angrily writing that they will never donate again or sending back the donation request with one cent and an angry letter about what the BoT did to Joesus.

I know I have read threads on BWI about an increase in donation levels, and the Cult will usually spin it that donation levels are way down due to the BoT and the school is really just using creative accounting to claim that donation levels have increased.

Man, the corn sucks balls.

Academic rankings are not the be all and end all, but if you look at what the bulk of the criteria is, they are valid. I like this ranking because it focuses solely on undergraduate measures such as selectivity (the quality of the student body) retention and graduation rates, affordability. I even like the way it aggregates other rankings into an overall "prestige" factor that translates directly into how businesses and graduate schools are going to view the quality of your education and how well that degree will travel nationally and internationally. In and of themselves, I don't think anyone would say that these factors are not important in evaluating a university. All the rankings tend to do is aggregate several factors into an overall score.

That ranking makes me want the B1G to go into the ACC and scoop up UVA and Georgia Tech even more...BTW Virginia Tech is ahead of the Pedsters too

The bold part is how the Cult easily rationalizes such rankings as being nonsense. As of two or three years ago, Penn St. was the most expensive public school in the entire country (it may still be the most expensive public school in the country). It blows my mind that even for an in-state resident, four years at PSU is a $125K endeavor for tuition, room and board.

In the past, academic rankngs that factor cost into the equation have been quickly dismissed by numerous posters on BWI citing tuition figures from the Ivy League and other "world-class" institutions.

In Ohio, The Other State Universities and their partisans always attempt to dismiss our rankings saying that they're unduly influenced by graduate and research factors. Well, here's a ranking that strips away anything to do with grad schools or research as well as any indicators of faculty quality/reputation and gives no weight to financial resources and endowment, yet we are still a top 15 public university, top half of the Big Ten and easily the best public school in Ohio.
