Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Of course fans can (you knew exactly what you were doing when you excluded the word "fans" after "Ohio State" above). It's not like the school itself is claiming it. They're mythical anyway! Who cares?

Let's be honest about 2 things:

(1) Counting National Championships and begrudging someone else one is just a form of a "D***-measuring contest." Ohio State already is in the elite in college football history anyway, you already have the pretty girl.

(2) If my hypothetical 2002 situation had happened, some Buckeyes fans would be claiming an MNC also. WHICH IS FINE!
The thing is, the OP over on Audibles questioned how many titles they could LEGITIMATELY claim, citing his source as saying the NCAA recognizes 7 titles, which they don't. The NCAA only recognizes 4.

Let's not forget the posthumous Heisman that was awarded to Mike "Anabolic" Mauti. RIP BEAT NEBRASKA!

If that's supposed to prove that a statement of "it's not like Penn State itself is claiming (1994 as a National Championship Year)" is incorrect .......... I'm sorry, that photo fails in that regard.

I don't see anything that says "National Champions" next to all of those years. (and yes, as a tangential issue, 2012 doesn't belong there).
Then what are those year supposed to be, then? You weren't in a conference until 1993, so those aren't conference title years, at least those prior to 1993.

With the exception of 2012 (which as I've said doesn't even belong there), they are years where Penn State either (a) went undefeated or (b) won the B1G Championship. No years which don't fit (a) or (b) are up there.

FWIW, 1911 & 1912 --- which are up there --- PSU (the school itself) doesn't claim a National Championship though Penn State is listed as Champs in NCAA Media Guides.

You're absolutely right. Joesus not only claimed 68 (laughable beyond belief given the respective resumes of Ohio State and Ped State) 69 (had a chance to prove it on field and ran away like the complete fucking bitch that he was) and 73 (laughable again since they ended up 5th in the final AP poll), he actually held "National Championship Ceremonies" for the teams where they were presented with "National Championship Rings." That evil old troll was grifting from the very beginning.

BEAT OHIO STATE!
BEAT TEXAS!
BEAT NOTRE DAME, OHIO STATE, OKLAHOMA & ALABAMA!

So, they list every undefeated year? How pathetic. If Ohio State did they same, in addition to the eight national title years, they'd have to list six other years that produced undefeated seasons (1899, 1916, 1917, 1944, 1973, and 2012). A national title season should be the only year displayed in any college stadium.

It doesn't really matter ("rules" on hanging banners??????), but fair enough.

Go to any other stadium that has years displayed in their stadium and it'll state what those years are (national titles, conference titles, whatever). If a stadium doesn't have anything disclaiming the years, it's pretty much implied they're for national titles.
