Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

No, PSU. Just no. RT @DVNJr: @PennStateMHKY will be wearing 409 tonight on helmets for Joe Paterno: (h/t @MacyGolder)

Good to see at least they worked out that "culture" issue they had there. Fucking mutant, pigmonsters.

Let them have their wins. Let them play in a bowl game. Who gives a shit. In the end, like Olbermann said; "409" is not that evil old man's legacy. The most wins in ncaa history? Not his/their legacy. The 2 (lol, two...get your fucking shinebox) national championships? Not his/their legacy. Joe Paterno and Penn State football's legacy is Jerry Sandusky. Take a poll. Mention those two things to anybody on the street, and I guarantee 90% of people relate him/psu to kid rape and Jerry Sandusky. That's their legacy. And them celebrating this meaningless gesture just shines a big, bright light on how morally bankrupt that school/those people are again.

Well, that was fun. On PTI, they started talking about the wins being restored and I walked up to the TV (mounted on the wall, usually used for news programs) to hear it better. As I did, this USAF SSgt, who is a PSU fan and is normally (believe it or not) pretty reasonable about [Mark May], came up and asked, "What do you think?" When I told him I disagreed and he asked why, I told him, "Because he let that [Mark May] go on and did nothing." He immediately flipped his demeanor and said Paterno knew nothing. When I said, "Bull[Mark May].", he said, and I [Mark May] you not, "They had to explain to Paterno what sodomy is." When I asked him if he really believed that someone who religiously read the classics didn't know what sodomy was, he replied, "I read the grand jury testimony." JFC, it was like I teleported into BWI. We almost got into it right there on the operations floor. By the way, I'm wearing my scarlet OSU polo shirt...fuck 'em.

You tell him to go get his fucking shinebox?

That is only if you outrank him.

I'm telling you, it's the only fanbase that takes people who are normal in all other aspects of life....successful even.....and reduces that person to a cult freak. It makes no sense that the team you root for would influence you that much, but nearly every person I've met is the same exact way. I'll change the subject with people who I like, but are Penn State fans before I talk football with them because I don't want to find out that they're just another BWI lunatic.

Mark Emmert needs to go now. I was willing to wait and see how he handled this and he was a complete feckless coward. The best thing he could do now is resign in shame for failing to stand up to the cult of Joe Pedterno

Fuck that. Mark Emmert has lost all face and honor. He needs to commit Seppuku. Cowardice shouldn't be a surprise however. Everyone runs from a lawsuit anymore.

Delaney should've kicked their ass out of the Big Ten when he had the chance.

Funny how they just had a big bowl win, program looks like it might be getting back on track and despite wanting to "move on" their entire off season is now all about Paterno and Sandusky again.

Fuck Penn State. There's no football program I hate more. I can't even hate TTUN, the St Louis Cardinals or the Steelers even a tenth as much as I furiously hate Penn State.

Seppuku is for people who have followed their vision through with conviction to the very end, yet found themselves on the wrong side of history. You can disagree with them (and more than a few were batshit crazy with terrible ideas), but all of them believed in their world view and fought to the bitter end for their "ideals".

People like Oda Nobunaga and his servant Ranmaru, assassin Tanaka Shinbei and his leader Hanpeita, 47 Ronin, 19 White Tigers, tea-master Sen no Rikyu, Genpei War general Imai Kanehira jumping off a horse with sword in mouth, general Yoshitsune & his family, general and reformer Saigo Takamori, novelist Mishima Yukio, and most spectacularly general Shimizu Muneharu on a boat in his flooded castle in order to end the siege (and spare the survivors lives).

TLDR:
Seppuku is too good for a folding coward like Emmert, especially since history has been on his side.
For whatever reason people think it's about shame -- but it's much more about martyrdom and Japan's lionization of idealists who refuse to compromise and thus destroyed by (implied corrupt) worldly interests like politics and power.
