Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

It went beyond just being our secondary rival with most pedsters. That, to them, was actually unacceptable. They really expected that they would become both Michigan and Ohio State's primary rival, and games with the pedsters would supplant The Game as the most important in the Big Ten. Anyone who dealt with their delusional alums and fans between 1990 and 2005 knows how mind-numbingly arrogant they were about what their place in the conference would be.

They were never going to be anything but third to Michigan--after Ohio State and Sparty. They had a better shot with us to fill that secondary role of conference roadblock that Wiscy was until '11 and Sparty is now. That they failed to accomplish that on the field is inconceivable to them, so it must be some giant conspiracy to keep them down.
They absolutely could have been above Sparty (formerly Wisky), and there was a solid decade of classic moments. However they deep sixed their own program with a severely over the hill overlord and never truly crawled out of the hole dug for them by consistent competition in the B1G. The scandal has severely distorted the nation's perception of why they became so bad.

But 409 had to be achieved at all costs, even if it meant leaving his program and university in shambles not to mention untold numbers of shattered young boys. Priorities, damn it.

Even in the pre Big 10 days, the Pedsters viewed Rutgers and Maryland as rivals in the same vein as the Washington Generals are "rivals" to the Harlem Globetrotters. No one would go watch the Gliobetrotters if there wasn't a hapless opponent whose presence is there solely for the Globetrotters to perform their classic routine. Entering this season, the Pedsters were 22-2 all-time against Rutgers and 35-1-1 all-time against Maryland. That was how Joesus made his bones for decades, by beating college football's versions of the Washington Generals.

Never mind the fact that Maryland beat the Pedsters outright yesterday and Rutgers came within a field goal of doing the same thing earlier this season. As with most things, the Pedsters remain stuck in the '70s and '80s regarding their role in the college football landscape.

I like to hear their complaints that they only have 40-something scholarship athletes. So when Ohio State, Michigan, Maryland, and Northwestern beat them, it isn't an accomplishment. What is their excuse for 2000 (5-7), 2001 (5-6), 2003 (3-9), or 2004 (4-7)? Or USC - did their fans whine the way Penn State's do?

And Free Shoes put their old bastard out to pasture early, and look where they are now. If they had obsessed about that record, they'd be in the toilet now too.

You guys try to analyze the PedSters too much. Its really very simple. They are cultists. They are waiting for a magical comet to return from deep space, that carries inside it a rocket ship piloted by Dear Leader. They will all put on black tennis shoes and khakis, climb to the top of Mt. Nittany and zoom off to the eternal Happy Valley in the sky. Amen.

Geoff Ketchum, the owner and publisher of the Texas Longhorns website OrangeBloods.com, was suspended by Rivals.com for his offensive tweet following last night's Ole Miss-Auburn game.

“Rivals.com maintains strict editorial guidelines, and the Tweet by Geoff Ketchum violated not only our standards, but also the standards of our industry,” said Rivals.com PR manager Sean Hamel. “He has apologized and the Tweet has been removed. In addition, Geoff has been suspended from writing for Rivals.com and OrangeBloods.com and a full editorial review is underway.”

So Rivals.com actually has standards for their sites? How the hell does BWI still exist and McAndrew remain in control? Ketchum's tweet was deplorable, of course. But a racist tweet is worse than years of calling victims of sexual abuse liars and money-grubbers or wishing death on Sara Ganim and Louis Freeh and Mark Emmert and Rodney Erickson?

Truth hurts. The Ol' Miss Golden Girl twirler for the 1962 band was from my high school. When riots broke out over James Meridith being admitted she was quoted in the Dayton Daily News, "they're letting one person ruin homecoming for all of us."
Like joePa she protected people's weekends.

The tweet isn't even racist. He's condemning that town and culture's history of segregation. McAndrew, however, can let the cult post the home addresses and phone numbers of refs and keep the posts up, and Yahoo doesn't do squat.
