Penn State at tOSU, Oct 30th, 7:30 PM, ABC

I went to bed perfectly content with another Buckeye win over PSU and a twinkle in my eye for TSUN losing.

I will say this, I wasn’t a fan of all the “survive” chatter. I feel like this played a huge part in how that game went down and I hate it. Teach the death machine to take what is theirs, not for the hope to escape the jaws of defeat.

Some might disagree… but I heard it before the game, watched it unfold all evening, then heard more survival talk the rest of the night after it was over.

Much more a fan of “We don’t do average” than “Survive the night” — just saying.

People (especially young people) will feed into vibes. Pretty sure they did so last night from what I was seeing.

I think this is an honest assesment. Ped State wasn't as bad as what they were the past 2wks. They had a QB that wasn't 100%, but the rest of the team was fine, and has a very good defense. They got a healthy Clifford last night, and we saw what they could do at full strength. Wish he didn't carve s up so many in our zone coverage, but that's what good QBs do. Ped St played closer to a top 10 team and not #20. Funny how getting a healthy QB can alter an offense...

I’m content with the win and ready to move on. The QB stayed heathy in a tough game, which is very important. Perhaps the most impressive thing last night was no sacks allowed by the Buckeyes OL, which didn’t seem able to get a push in short yardage.

Obviously there is room for improvement in red zone offense, short yardage running plays, third down defense, and avoiding false starts. And figuring out how to get B1G refs to call offensive holding, at least when it’s blatant.

Look at it from a positive view; PSU is the second most talented team in the conference. They played as well as they can and it still wasn't good enough. A 9 point win over the only team in the league that has anywhere near the same level of talent as OSU feels closer than it should have been if it's less than a double digit win.

This has been the case for a few years now and I take it as an affirmation of OSU's supremacy.

My concern as we move forward is that Stroud and the offense have now played two defenses that are generally in their weight class in terms of talent. Oregon and PSU both gave up yards but held up well in the RZ.

Defensive concerns are the first drive of games and the 3rd down conversion rate (not just last night). Scary part to me is that we don't see a capable offense outside of Sparty until the CFP.

Speaking of post-season...a rematch with Minny in the B1G CG? Not many good choices from the West put that won't help us at all.

It wouldn't have been too bad if Minny hadn't shit the bed against Bowling Green. They'd be a top-15 team today without that head-scratching loss.

Yeah, we went from having the best remaining SOS to only having Sparty pretty damn quick.

I think we all knew the rest of the B1G teams were way overrated but their bubbles being burst before OSU did it, is no bueno.

Others have already said most of what there is to say…

This is not the first time I’ve seen an inconsistent quarterback have an incredibly great game against the Buckeyes, and that’s what Clifford had last night. He made plays he hadn’t made in a long time; a lot of them. But it wasn’t enough.

If you’d told me before the game that the Buckeyes would make a ton of unforced errors and PSU would play their best game of the year I would’ve worried about this young team.

Hopefully we’ll look back and say they grew up a little last night

Penn State losing to Illinois is what hurt the most. They always do some fuck shit like lose to a .500 team then look like the 2007 Patriots when playing OSU. It’s maddening.

You should listen to his post game press conference instead of postgame interviews. Kid is clearly bright. He straight up told them what he read on the Olave play and why he did what he did. I actually thinks he makes good decisions quicker then Fields. While Fields would hold it trying to make the homerun vs just taking the open play. Obviously he hasn't shown Fields ability to run and just make ridiculous plays when everything breaks down but as far as reading the defense it feels like he's faster.
I do. There’s no difference. The God talk is still there. He’s still an inarticulate kid and has room for growth. And history has shown that you don’t have to be all that smart to win in college football. But being able to throw a football and wearing the OSU logo on your shirt doesn’t mean you’re smart. And the more you talk about God, the less chance I think you have of actually learning anything.
