Penn State at tOSU, Oct 30th, 7:30 PM, ABC

Why didn’t he just kill Pharaoh instead of everyone’s first born son?

I respect everyone’s right to their faith but the more they talk about it the less I respect them. I’m rooting for CJ but whenever I hear him speak I get the impression that he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer and all the God talk doesn’t help. At all.
You should listen to his post game press conference instead of postgame interviews. Kid is clearly bright. He straight up told them what he read on the Olave play and why he did what he did. I actually thinks he makes good decisions quicker then Fields. While Fields would hold it trying to make the homerun vs just taking the open play. Obviously he hasn't shown Fields ability to run and just make ridiculous plays when everything breaks down but as far as reading the defense it feels like he's faster.

The Buckeyes defeated Penn State on Saturday night, and in a game between Ohio State and Penn State – the last six of which have all now been decided by 13 points or fewer – that’s really all that matters. Ohio State survived a game that’s always one of its biggest tests of the regular season, keeping itself in position to achieve all of its goals entering November.

That said, Penn State made Ohio State look beatable again. After the Buckeyes cruised to wins by 39, 49 and 47 points over Rutgers, Maryland and Indiana in their first three games of October, they had to grind out a 9-point victory over the Nittany Lions. The Buckeyes got 33 points and 466 yards against a team that hadn’t allowed more than 23 points or 395 yards of offense all year, but they scored a season-low two offensive touchdowns despite six trips to the red zone. Ohio State’s defense had to battle, too, as Penn State converted 11 of 18 third downs and put up more points (24) and yards (394) than it had in each of its previous two losses to Iowa and Illinois.

Ultimately, though, Ohio State made enough plays on both sides of the ball to get a win over the team that’s more consistently played the Buckeyes tough than any other team in the Big Ten over the past six years, and that gave Ryan Day reason to be proud of his team on Saturday night.

“I’m proud of our guys for working through a gritty game like this. It’s not untypical of a Penn State game. It’s nothing that we didn’t expect. I thought it would be very much like it happened,” Day said after the game. “We’re gonna go back on this film and look at it and learn a lot from it and grow from it and pull our hair from it, but we kept swinging away … Just across the board, I thought we were gritty. We didn’t panic. We kept swinging.

“Now in the second half of the season, we’re 2-0, that was the goal. The goal was just to win the game. We weren’t trying to get style points in a game against Penn State. That’s not how it works. You gotta just win the game.”

8. Still not sure what happened there on the 4th and 3 early in the fourth quarter. It looked like Stroud expected Olave to stop in that vacated area with what appeared to be safety help over the top. Either way, I liked the decision by Day, not sure that three points accomplishes a whole lot there and the offense had sputtered in the red zone several times already that I understand wanting to get aggressive there to finish one off with a touchdown.

9. He also made the right call with 2:39 left to kick the field goal and make it a nine point lead. That had to be incredibly frustrating as it would have been a great confidence boost to finish off a game with an impressive touchdown drive, but as was the case much of the night, the offensive line could not get a push in short yardage situations.

Just sayin': I thought that they should have taken the field goal. Either way the offense sure left a lot of points on the field considering how many times they were in the red zone and didn't come away with 7.

There were comments about the Penn State defense bottling up Henderson in the 1st half; however, Penn State had absolutely no running game (i.e. 33 yards) the entire game. Kind of surprised to see (at least quarterback rating (RTG) wise) Stroud outplayed Clifford. Also, Clifford's fumble (and scoop for a TD) and INT were HUGE game changers. Another couple stats that stand out:

1. Sacks: Ohio State 4 - Penn State 0
2. Tackle for loss (TFL): Ohio State 8 (28 yards) - Penn State 7 (10 yards)

Just a strange game.

I have to give them credit. They definitely got after this offense and honestly I didn't think that was possible. Sure Oregon held us to 28 but we still got like 600 yards of offense. IMO this is teams blue print so we have to find some answers now.

The defensive line picked it up eventually but overall 361 yards to a pretty rough offense at home and at night isn't great.

Not what many expected but a win is a win is a win!

...now about the concept of holding
Illegal hands to the face doesn't exist either..
They started off by ignoring the throat slashing gesture from a PSU player that's been an unsportsmanlike penalty since Miami mad eit so in the early '90's
Have we discussed how launching crown of the helmet contact to the back of a players helmet who is already down isn’t targeting?

Why is that even a fucking rule if not for that exact situation. I assume they’re so fucking stupid they think the back of the helmet made it different somehow?

I woke up appreciating the win. Last night it felt like an unimpressive, uninspiring win from which there wasn’t much good to take away. Upon further consideration, that game could have easily gotten away from us. Those poor weather, close score games can tilt in a blink and something could have happened comparable to 2016 aa doesn’t matter where you’re playing.

Ultimately the defense didn’t fuck around and didn’t allow a game winning or tying drive; ultimately Day kept pounding away with Henderson; ultimately Stroud was protected enough to find receivers for a balanced air attack. PSU has a good secondary; we still got 300 efficiency.

While I think Franklin is not elite, that team had its back against the wall with what was most likely its biggest game remaining on the schedule this season. We got their absolute best shot. While I don’t like offering Franklin credit for anything, he has them motivated and exuding profound effort.

I’ll take it; review the offensive line’s execution opportunities — because there are many missed assignments to be seen on film. Remember the last time we fucked up in the red zone literally almost every time we got there back in 2018? I’m sure the offensive staff will take a close look at the woes last night in that area. Sure, you’d hope for more sharpness off a bye but sometimes when you’re in that much of a rhythm time can work against you.

7-1; get fucked cult cock suckers

Agreed and I too woke up just being glad to have won.

OL wasn't very good and IMO that's when we really seem lost. If we are going to win it all though we've got to get the answers there because that performance doesn't beat UGA etc.

I can't put my finger though on the 361 yards allowed passing yards. We got 4 sacks so we can't say it's a pressure issue. I'll never understand this game. How Illinois gets 350+ rush yards and then shuts down Clifford is beyond me when we struggle up front and then have Cliffors go off. Then Illinois loses to Rutgers and we have extreme trouble with PED. You really don't know what you're going to get each week.

Plus side is that the defense again did well vs the run, got pressure, created negative plays and caused turnovers which led to scores.
