I feel like this is where this team has been in many cases this year as opposed to going out and putting the hurt on a team, like we did to MSU, thanks to some takeaways.
Even in the MSU game we buttoned it up in the second half, by running 18 straight times, instead of taking that opportunity to work on the passing game....
Hey, don't get me wrong - I'm all for pounding it 18 straight times
if we're up by 3 or 4 scores in the second half like we were against MSU.
But look at the Purdon't game. That first quarter was the perfect recipe for a blowout - and we didn't do it.
This game set up for having a comfortable lead by the time of the fumble. I think there were many big play opportunities if we would have tried for them on first and second down.
The '05 TX game we could have at least tried to get TDs after the TX turnovers gave us short fields, and it was like "well, let's not give it back to them and maybe we'll get a FG".
Could go on and on, but what's the point?
We've all talked about the defense getting more aggressive, and since we have the last few games, it's reaped benefits.
I only wish we would match that confidence on the other side of the ball.
Get Browning out at tackle, or at least put a TE or have a RB chip the DE on his side, something to have a chance at success.
Honestly, both he and Rehring could have been called for holding a couple of times each because they kept getting beat by speed.
Anyway, play-action on first or second down would take alot of pressure off the struggling O-line.
We always seem to run our plays into the strength of the defense, and then wonder why we don't score more points.
