ORTLAND, Ore. – Dr. Verenice Gutierrez, a principal with Oregon’s Portland Public Schools, has become convinced that America’s “white culture” negatively influences educators’ world view and the manner in which they teach their students.

For instance, last year a teacher in the district presented a lesson that included a reference to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Gutierrez says that by using sandwiches as an illustration, the teacher was engaged in a very subtle form of racism.

“What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?” asked Gutierrez, according to Portland Tribune. “Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”

Gutierrez is not the only Portland administrator who has become obsessed with identifying such forms of alleged racism. Almost all Portland school leaders have gone through “Coaching for Educational Equity,” a week-long seminar on race that’s conducted by the Pacific Educational Group.

The Pacific Educational Group is the brainchild of Glenn Singleton, whose mission is to enlighten educators about how public schools promote “white culture” and “white privilege.” He argues that those conditions are responsible for the black/white achievement gap that exists throughout America’s public education system.

cont stupidity.....

George Washington Carver was racist. It's obvious now

I mean seriously. If they were talking about those little cucumber sandwiches or bologna with mayo, sure. Obviously racist. But peanut butter and kool-aid is a hood staple. I loved that [Mark May]. I'm white on the outside, but I'm down.

you mean pb&j doesn't really symbolize "white privilege"?!

 that is a true classic car
It was better than the fire engine red 77 Toyota Celica she drove before that. She bought it at the end of summer. Had a sunroof and everything. First day of school it poured cats and dogs. I was in the back seat, wearing my "new" school clothes my older brother gave me when we found out the sunroof had a tiiiiiny major leak. I would've been less wet walking to school.

When my mom graduated from college and got her first nursing job, she used the signing bonus to buy a fifteen year old Grand-Am. It may as well have been a Vette. I was telling my friends it would be my car in five years. She junked it for $100 when the engine blew. Only two more years and it would have been mine

About as much as the 1977 rusted out, busted up Oldsmobile that my mom drove while i was in elementary school. You had to use a butter knife to open the door.

 Awesome :banger:

My dad used to drive me to school in a 1979 Ford Grenada that had 4 different colors of gray primer on it....it was clearly ready for Urban combat since it was already camouflaged

Yeah we had some ridiculous rides while my mom was in school.

I was so embarrassed f the celica after the muffler fell off right as we were pulling out of Johnny Clem elementary with all of my friends behind us. My mom was an asshole. Made me jump out and grab it. Fucker was HOT. I'd always bitch when she took me to school because i was an asshole too. One day, as I begged her to drop me off a block away, something inside her snapped. She didn't stop and let me out. The blacktop at this school was separated from the drop off area by a short, rounded curb. The blacktop also ran right up against the length of the school, which was covered in windows. She hopped the curb, drove halfway down the length of the school and told me to get out. Then she honked...I should add that the horn was dying, so instead of an actual honk, it came out like the death rattle of a medium sized farm animal...then shr yelled at the top of her lungs "I LOVE YOU BABY! HAVE A GOOD DAY AT SHOOL!!" in a baby talk voice.
