Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

Which, to me, goes back to the overall culture of the program not a Zach Smith thing. Meyer demanded a certain element of physical toughness from all players and position groups that I don't know is still there.
Day continuing to constantly call them even though theyve proven over and over not to work is the "scary thing" i'd say. It's just a sign of bad coaching to constantly keep attempting to shove square blocks into circle holes.
Yeah both of these.

1. The demand to be a great blocking WR room clearly isn't being emphasized.

2. Ryan Day is allowing for that.

3. Ryan continues to put the offense behind the chains by calling the same play which rarely works.

If we aren't a good perimeter blocking team then at least just dont call the play very often. I think every play should be called at least once in a while to keep it in the back of teams minds. However running it 5 times a game when it never works is just dumb. That play automatically means 2nd and 10 for the offense right now (sometimes even 2nd and 13).

Almost as frustrating was the WR screens that put us behind the chains, are the slow developing easily predicted outside runs, that also seem to put us behind the chains more often than not. Bonus frustration points when one of these runs is called on a 3rd or 4th and short. Because why plow Miyan up the middle when you can send him outside on a delayed handoff into a wall of defenders.

I would proudly and publicly piss myself laughing at them if that happend.
Purdue gave them all they wanted and this TCU offense is very explosive. They're explosive and they have a running QB and a 1,000 yard back. Combine that with TCU being 9 point dogs and playing like a million 1 score games? TCU isn't going to fold like we did (and the others they beat) in the 4th.

That should be a warning for our game if that happens IMO. Clearly would mean the B1G isn't as dominant at the top as everyone thinks. If TCU wins I'll be even more concerned we get hurt pretty bad by Georgia.

I agree though that it'd be damned hilarious if TCU wins.

Hahah I was going to mention this too in my previous point.

Stretch vs a team like UGA is asking for it. I've watched a lot of Georgia and surprisingly you can get some hards through the A gap. We'd be wise to run inside out but I doubt we do.

I don't think tsun is anywhere near as good as Ryan Day has enabled the media to make them out to be for the past two years.

It's maddening.

Nope they aren't. I watch Michigan and I just don't get how they win. It's pretty incredible really and probably has more to do with the big ten not being very good more than anything (which would explain Ryan Day only losing twice in 4 years).

I'd wager we see the same thing as we did vs scUM. Have some early success running inside, but then "adjust" to purely running slow developing outside zone runs after so often for whatever reason. It's like Day thinks that early success running inside = dividends later when it comes to running those outside runs.

Teams with a running QB always put teams in a bind which will include ttun also so it wont shock me to see TCU give them hell and have a chance to win.

What I'm hoping against is that we don't forget Bennett can run the ball when they have it because he certainly will. If CJ does the same, even once, in the first half, they'll have to keep an eye on him and that opens thigs up. We don't need him to actually be a good runner, just a threat to do it so they can't unleash on our Offense. Being multiple and unpredictable is more effective than just having the best player so if we can do both that would be nice.

I don't put it terms of Stroud running, I just think of it terms of better conversion percentage on 3rd down.

If he manages 3rd downs better, our odds improve dramatically (and sometimes that means taking an easy 2-3 yard bootleg when it's there.)

totally agree with the play calling part of the equation being a massive problem and an example of Day's stubbornness as a play caller. It's been discussed many times even before this last loss in The Game.

I mean, I guess we'll see. There's something to be said, in my opinion to not overreacting to failure. I mean, some days they get you. But now you've lost to scUM twice, so they apparently have deciphered at least some of the puzzle.

Clemson was a "sometimes they get you" game.... got them back, Alabama, well, I mean, it was 2020, missing a bunch of dudes and Sermon goes out on the first play, not that big a deal...

He has the time to course correct quite a bit. He's the underdog, and they're gonna have to do the super coachie coach stuff because, this isn't a go do what we do and we will hang 50 on them kind of game. There are going to be narrow paths to victory and they're gonna have to figure out some new stuff to do.

Look at Penn State 2019 for example. Day got it in his head that he was going to run and that's all he did in that game, especially the first drive or two. The talent was just good enough to do it.

I tried to tell myself at one point Day was not letting other teams dictate to him but at this point I can't honestly say it's anymore than being a stubborn play caller.
