Patrick Swayze Has 5 Weeks to Live

All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.

If somebody gets in your face and calls you a cocksucker, I want you to be nice. Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you, and you'll both be nice. I want you to remember that it's a job. It's nothing personal.

LOS ANGELES --

Patrick Swayze's doctor is "optimistic" about his prognosis for battling pancreatic cancer, and the "Dirty Dancing" actor's upcoming cable pilot is still in contention to become a series.

"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," Swayze's physician Dr. George Fisher said in a statement released by Wolf. "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

Still wish him luck.

Unfortunately with pancreatic cancer he is still most likely shit screwed...
Survival Rates
According to the American Cancer Society, for all stages of pancreatic cancer combined, the one-year relative survival rate is 20%, and the five-year rate is 4%. These low survival rates are attributable to the fact that fewer than 10% of patients' tumors are confined to the pancreas at the time of diagnosis; in most cases, the malignancy has already progressed to the point where surgical removal is impossible.

In those cases where resection can be performed, the average survival rate is 18 to 20 months. The overall five-year survival rate is about 10%, although this can rise as high as 20% to 25% if the tumor is removed completely and when cancer has not spread to lymph nodes.

It is a "silent killer", because most folks don't know that they have it until it gets to the lymph nodes. Unlike prostrate cancer, for instance, there is no annual PSA type test to look out for it.

yep, most people are not aware until the disease is in the late stages (3 or 4) and it honestly does a number on someone. It is just an awful disease and will quickly wreak havoc. :(

I believe it has the lowest survival rate of any cancer. Could be wrong.

This is consistent with what I know. My husband's dad died of pancreatic cancer. When diagnosed the docs told the family that the survival rate was like 5-10%. Not a optimistic cancer at all!

Cancer sucks! I think Ryn already established that.

Can't really rip on Swayze for having cancer. I don't recall ever reading about him being a scumbag in his personal life. So he made some bad movies, but the cool thing about Swayze bad movies are that they are the stuff of legend. I know that my life is forever richer for having seen Roadhouse and Point Break--hell, I own the dvds. BTW, you haven't really watched Roadhouse until you've watched it with commentary by Kevin Smith.

Thing about Roadhouse is, how the hell is he going to explain the fact that he went to the bad guy's house and killed a whole boat load of people, including the owner. "But your Honor, he was a bad guy..."

Why does he have to explain anything? I thought Red and them didn't see a thing. :wink2:
