Parker Fleming (Official Thread)

There is a thing called immediate recovery but talking heads and rent a ref ignored that
I'm not intentionally being difficult, I've never heard of immediate recovery before. Guess I could work with ESPN's C crew...

My point is that you have to do all you can to snap that ball before it goes upstairs. They had zero urgency to do that. When you have a FT special teams coach and they lack situational awareness WTF are you working on all week?

Last night on post game with Gerd and Orr, some highlights of their coverage and I am paraphrasing:

"never seen a block in the back on a fair catch - achievement unlocked."

"we've had a full time special teams coach for a year with James Lauranitis not on the road recruiting what's the biggest achievement they made this year?"

"I don't know - they don't return kicks, they don't do onsides to Olave, no aggression, no coverage - Parker Flemming is a guy collecting a check trying not to get noticed but he keeps getting noticed because they make mistakes every week."

"you can attempt to block a kick, attempt to run one back, you have a third phase of the game because the alternative is the offense that can't move the ball. 5 min to go and Xavier watches it sail over his head. Why?"

"the return game is dark matter. You know it's there you just can't see it."

There is really nothing left to say here about Fleming and special teams. If Day allows him back into the WH facility he loses further credibility in his abilities to do what’s best for the program. Do the right thing Day and Parker best of luck. Not the right job for you.

Day owns this stuff, too. Not trying to pile on with Day hate but it's not a rogue coach deciding we aren't going to run kicks back or work on any wrinkle in the 30 days leading up to the bowl game. In no world do the Ohio State coaches meet in the morning and day says okay guys have a great day and let them direct their units independently. These are "big picture" decisions, IMHO.

Honestly, has there been a worse coach is tOSU history? Jim Bollman is maligned, but he actually coordinated a couple solid offenses (granted with a Heisman QB and another athletic freak at QB). Beck/Warriner get the same rap, but they coordinated at least above average units that beat scUM and won bowl games; they just underachieved relative to the talent they had available. Alex Grinch was terrible and didn't recruit, but his and Schiano's defense didn't have embarrassing gaffes every single game. I can't think of one positive that we've seen from this guy's units other than Jesse Mirco having a great game last night. Even that was overshadowed by the glaring deficiencies in other aspects of his job. These guys make very basic mistakes almost every single game that cannot happen in big time CFB. Frankly, it's been beyond embarrassing for two years.

Bill Davis…..can’t even mention a positive that came from him coaching here.
