Yeah hopefully it's a live and learn situation. Let's face it, it is tough to walk into a new school and just excel immediately. But Frye has to perform on the recruiting end and now. '26 and '27 have to be elite. '26 is on a tee with our Ohio guys.Well, sounds like Frye is casting his net much earlier. Hopefully fishing in Ohio waters as well. And hoping that his follow-through with these recruits is as thorough as LJsr's is. Maybe walk down the hall, and see how the master does it? Hiller must be special, as seems that the skill positions populate the early recruiting rankings (based on camps, etc), so an OL that's currently a sophomore must be quite a specimen.
there's a lot of "huh" type statements in this paragraph...not really sure how it pertains to this recruitment either....Don't disagree with that sentiment, only to say that Harline has not even executed the OC role, let alone the HC role. If memory serves, LJ was the interim when UFM had to take a knee. If Hartline had done the OC role (he had the title, but play calling was....Day), he might be a more viable candidate. No real experience, like a certain presidential candidate. With Chip sitting as OC (isn't Hartline co-OC?), doing the de facto role, can envision Brian going elsewhere as a real OC. Saw a vignette where (name escapes me, it's early AM), ex-coach of Titans steps in. Chip might perform as interim, but don't believe he wants the big chair. Am hoping Chip and Ryan (and Frye?) are burning the midnight oil, trying to put the OL pieces into some semblance of order - that will work. Maybe I simply believe the articles I read here, and other places, but the highly touted players, seem to be nowhere on the scene now. If they can work that out, don't see why the QB would have to scramble so much, and risk injury. However, my point still stands. From what I/we've seen, there is a serious drop-off between QB1 and QB next in skill set, durability, decision-making, etc. If the worst happens, I'd throw Sayin in, and let him get blooded the hard way. If this transpires, that means Day has thrown in the towel on the 2024 season anyway.
Agreed, at this point IDC who's recruiting the OL, just let the person who can relate to OL recruits get on the trail with Frye. Whatever Urban did with Warriner(who was a known terrible and lazy recruiter) to still land top OL recruits, utilize that method. Frye has shown that he can't recruit at the highest level OOS. If Hartline, Bailey and Lock need to help, then have them meet Frye on the trail. Many of the recruits at other positions go to schools close to these OL recruits, or are at the same school. Just tag team. This shouldn't be a hard method for a school like OSU. I can't believe that other schools weren't doing the same. No way do I believe a guy like Stud was left on the trail by himself at past stops. And Frye has to realize he's no longer at UCLA, settling for projects shouldn't be his strategy. And whiffing on HS recruits, there should be a quick pivot to finding what OL are available in the Portal. I can think of at least 5 OL with midwest ties that would've made better 2nd string LT options than MichalskiYes please.
Bring in Hartline to close!
