2027 PA OL Maxwell Hiller (Verbal Offer)

Maxwell Hiller will visit OSU on Oct. 26

One of the top offensive tackles in the 2027 class is expected to make an unofficial visit to Ohio State soon. Five-star prospect Maxwell Hiller told Rivals this week he plans on taking a trip to Columbus for the Buckeyes’ contest against Nebraska in October. He’s also taking gameday visits to Penn State and Auburn this fall and has already visited Maryland.

"I’m super pumped to be there," Hiller told Rivals about OSU. "It's a huge blessing and it’s a championship organization."

Hiller was offered by OSU earlier this month and is ranked as the No. 29 prospect and the No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2027 class.

Well, sounds like Frye is casting his net much earlier. Hopefully fishing in Ohio waters as well. And hoping that his follow-through with these recruits is as thorough as LJsr's is. Maybe walk down the hall, and see how the master does it? Hiller must be special, as seems that the skill positions populate the early recruiting rankings (based on camps, etc), so an OL that's currently a sophomore must be quite a specimen.

Yeah hopefully it's a live and learn situation. Let's face it, it is tough to walk into a new school and just excel immediately. But Frye has to perform on the recruiting end and now. '26 and '27 have to be elite. '26 is on a tee with our Ohio guys.

From what I've read here and other places, Frye has been given notice (most underperforming asst coach on the Buckeye team) during his review. From what we've seen so far (four games), the OL is playing better than prior years, so there's that, and from what little is panned on the field towards the end, Frye is getting some OLs real game experience. Going to be critical, as four of current starters either run out of eligibility or go on to the NFL. I was impressed with the pocket around the QB against MSU, as well as the ferocity of Trey's blocking chops on the MLB or DE coming after Howard. Emeka showed his completeness by sealing off LBs and CBs on some run plays as well, but that's for another story. There's still plenty of season left, and the MSU game was nice warm-up, and Iowa comes a'knocking this week end, with it's usual stout D. On the positive side, when Donovan was out, Severeid (sp?) filled in nicely, and now splits time with Tegra. The difficulty scale of games climbs, what with Iowa, Oregon, Nebraska, Penn St, and then TSUN providing chances for tOSU's OL to excel. Then a whole different level in the play-off games. Meanwhile, Frye has to start solidifying recruiting, would be a feather if he flipped the GA Tech OL, and laid the foundation with five or more 4-5* OLs (LTs please) for 2025. Didn't plan to go on and on, but will finish by saying that believe that Chip will probably go a step further than any other Offensive Coordinator, due to his relationship with Frye at UCLA. Let's cheer for no injuries on the OL, decently high draft places for those departing, and higher rankings for our 2025/2026 OL commits. Go Bucks!

Am hoping that whomever was his host is saying, 'well, look at this position of need' or somesuch, without knocking current recruits. No recruit likes that. Projecting out, OL coaches salaries will get hiked up this off-season, as Day will be combing the ranks for someone to replace Frye. No one is/has been groomed to step in? How can this happen? This. Is. Ohio. State. We reload, not replace. That means that there's ALWAYS someone ready to man up when need arises. OK, done. Now, how about QB. NONE of the backups have impressed in the long run. What happens if Will goes down? Day's out of eligibility, so guess it's not gonna be him. Is Sayin ready? Air? Nuts, promised I wouldn't start the week with a rang. Anyway, go Bucks.

Don't disagree with that sentiment, only to say that Harline has not even executed the OC role, let alone the HC role. If memory serves, LJ was the interim when UFM had to take a knee. If Hartline had done the OC role (he had the title, but play calling was....Day), he might be a more viable candidate. No real experience, like a certain presidential candidate. With Chip sitting as OC (isn't Hartline co-OC?), doing the de facto role, can envision Brian going elsewhere as a real OC. Saw a vignette where (name escapes me, it's early AM), ex-coach of Titans steps in. Chip might perform as interim, but don't believe he wants the big chair. Am hoping Chip and Ryan (and Frye?) are burning the midnight oil, trying to put the OL pieces into some semblance of order - that will work. Maybe I simply believe the articles I read here, and other places, but the highly touted players, seem to be nowhere on the scene now. If they can work that out, don't see why the QB would have to scramble so much, and risk injury. However, my point still stands. From what I/we've seen, there is a serious drop-off between QB1 and QB next in skill set, durability, decision-making, etc. If the worst happens, I'd throw Sayin in, and let him get blooded the hard way. If this transpires, that means Day has thrown in the towel on the 2024 season anyway.

there's a lot of "huh" type statements in this paragraph...not really sure how it pertains to this recruitment either....

Yes please.

Bring in Hartline to close! :pimp:
Agreed, at this point IDC who's recruiting the OL, just let the person who can relate to OL recruits get on the trail with Frye. Whatever Urban did with Warriner(who was a known terrible and lazy recruiter) to still land top OL recruits, utilize that method. Frye has shown that he can't recruit at the highest level OOS. If Hartline, Bailey and Lock need to help, then have them meet Frye on the trail. Many of the recruits at other positions go to schools close to these OL recruits, or are at the same school. Just tag team. This shouldn't be a hard method for a school like OSU. I can't believe that other schools weren't doing the same. No way do I believe a guy like Stud was left on the trail by himself at past stops. And Frye has to realize he's no longer at UCLA, settling for projects shouldn't be his strategy. And whiffing on HS recruits, there should be a quick pivot to finding what OL are available in the Portal. I can think of at least 5 OL with midwest ties that would've made better 2nd string LT options than Michalski
