P B.J. Sander (official thread)

While we're talking punters... what do you guys think about the rugby style punters running and kicking on the fly? I've seen a lot of it this year, but I don't really see the point unless your line is likely to get one blocked... too much can go wrong. On the other hand when something does go wrong it must be nice to have a guy who can kick a 30 yard punt with no step whatsoever.

Yea, the punt formation could become very vital over the next two home games. The thought of 107,000 Buckeye fans chanting "BJ" "BJ" are going to make our Cheerleaders blush, and make Tibors boyfriend a bit "twitchy in the trousers" to get ol'tibes to "do" his thang!

Hummm, this thread took an odd turn. :tongue2:

Anyway, it's nice to have a very solid kicking game. Hopefully Tressel keeps the special teams a major focus for the Bucks in years to come. Seems to me like our kicking teams were very average (at best) through the 80's and 90's. I don't really recall having a great kicker AND a great punter together. Usually one OR the other, sometimes neither. Keep up the good work BJ. (and Nuge)

Sounded like the Browns also have shown some interest in Sander. Gardocki is due to make a million next season and I don't think they want to commit those kinds of dollars to a punter, even though he has been their best player since they returned.

Gardocki!

Yes! I don't know how often (in utter sarcasm) I clap and make a big deal out of seeing Gardocki on the field and, yes, I shout about him being our best player (even though last year he seemed sub-par).

too funny.

I look forward to seeing Will Smith doing really well next year.

Man, it's absolutely amazing the turnaround Sander made last year. I was the worst ragger of him, and at this time last year I was moaning the loss of Groom. If you would've told me that in a year's time Sander would be the 2003 Ray Guy Award winner and would end up being the best punter prospect in the pros, I probably would've shot you thinking you had rabies. Nobody is more pleased with his turnaround than I am.

If I remember right, BJ was a highly recruited punter and Andy was a walk on. It must have hurt to lose out on the position to a walk on. In the end it probably gave him the incentive he needed to prove himself this year...
