Players with local ties getting a look in camp

Sander did not play last season, although he had tryouts with several teams. The Bengals brought him and former Maryland punter Brooks Barnard in to punt this weekend. They brought in a total of 18 unsigned players for tryouts.

"I'd like to have hit the ball better, but I'm knocking some of the rust off as far as the drills and all of that," said Sander, who became a father for the first time this past February. "A lot of it is finding a niche, finding a place where you fit in and a scheme that fits you right where the coaching staff likes you and you can run with it."

"If things don't work out here then there are 31 other teams that will look at the film and then go from there," Sander said.
