Oversigning (capacity 25, everyone welcome! maybe)

Right....

Garrett prolly also thinks he's good enough to start over the two 1AA guy that were ahead of him on the depth chart at Northwestern St.

That's why he left there to WALK ON at Ole Miss.

Dude wasn't highly recruited (3* if i remember right).
He's been 3rd string everywhere he went (was 4th string here until Zach Lee signed with Dodgers).
Ole Miss isn't even offering him a scholly.

He's overweight, has poor work ethic (which led to his ballooning waist size), and isn't very talented.

like I said, we may very well be guilty as anyone else out there on this issue.
But Chris Garrett is not a good example of it.

none of that is really the point though. LSU had him on scholarship, then oversigned so they had to get rid of the dead weight. Some schools don't do that. SEC schools do it like crazy.

my point is that didn't cut him to get to the scholly limit.
they cut him because he was fat and lazy.

have we cut others to get to the limit? probably.
just he ain't one of them guys.

I suppose we cut Perrilloux to get to the limit too.

Or they oversigned and needed to get rid of however many kids they oversigned by, so they went right to the expendable kids. Apparently he was fat and lazy and hated puppies, but if LSU doesn't oversign, I would guess he'd still have a scholarship.

Here's the deal: D1 scholarships are everywhere renewable annually.

At institutions outside of the SEC they are routinely renewed annually regardless of where the player sits in the depth chart.

In the SEC the schollies are routinely NOT renewed for a variety of reasons, including

a. The player fails to put out the requisite effort to develop (which may be the case with this guy);
b. The player just isn't as good as the staff thought when they offered (which may be the case with this guy);
c. The player was the best the staff could attract at the time, but now they can find better (ditto above);
d. The coaching staff lost track of how many spots they had open;
e. The recruiting coaches had eyes bigger than their stomachs, much like 5-year-olds confronting the Thanksgiving dinner table (taking more players than they can fit in);
f. Absolute whimsy.

Bottom line is this - SEC coaches regard the players entirely differently from how they're regarded in pretty much all other major conferences, pretty much as a commodity. I don't claim that they don't have a right to do so within the framework of NCAA rules, but I guess I wish more young ballers were better informed as to what the real rules of the SEC game are, before they commit to schools in the SEC.

i'm not denying that we over sign and then cut kids to make the numbers work.
I don't follow the recruiting aspect closely enough to give any examples, but I'm sure they're out there.

I'm saying this particular kid who is crying about it was getting cut with or without over signing.

Compare the Chris Garrett story to Scott Sika's story. In the difference between those two lies the shame of oversigning.

um I just googled this guy.
He's the exact opposite of Garrett.

According to what I just read, Sika walked on and busted his ass to get where he is.

Garrett received a scholly and did nothing afterwards.

for his efforts, he was shown the door.
apparently the staff at Northwestern St. agreed with the LSU staff and buried him on their depth chart as well.

And I'm saying that, pretty much anywhere outside of the SEC, this particular kid is still on scholarship, working toward his degree at the school he chose to attend.
