My buds and I have been laughing at that for years. The icing on the cake was when they stormed the court after beating an "overrated" team.

Are you talking about Wisconsin or Auburn? If you've been to the Rathskeller and looked out on American Lake, had a pint of Leinenkuggle and a real bratwurst, then you know that there's much to the good to say about Wisconsin and Madison.

Probably the only place to avoid drunk and obnoxious college fans is Oral Roberts U. They're just obnoxious.
Thanks cincibuck. Look, Wisconsinites know who they are and don't hide from it. The usual derisive comments about Wisconsin/Madison (i.e. something to do with beer/cheese/livestock) are to be expected, and most here have grown numb to them by now. People of the state take great pride in their culture and history (well, except for the livestock part, for obvious reasons :wink2:.

I must say, I have nothing but the utmost respect for OSU, their athletic programs, and the state as a whole. A trip to the Horseshoe for a football game is on my bucket list.

It's the on-going SEC-ification of sports. It wasn't enough that Florida destroyed OSU 41-14, but the Bucks weren't fast enough. It wasn't enough to defeat Oklahoma, but they had to mock "Big Game" Bob Stoops.

JMHO.

hold on a minute, you guys are actually complaining about an "over rated" chant?

Doesn't every student section do that chant when they are about to beat a team ranked in the top 5 (while they themselves are ranked below i don't know #10 or something)?

Yes, there is irony in the "over rated" chant, but you can't criticize our fan base for chanting it. Its been done countless times before, by many different fan bases.

The "Diebler Swallows" chant was a little inappropriate and really doesn't look very good to the general audience

IF Sullinger was actually spit on, then wiscy's apparent "lack of class" can be called into question.

But seriously??? You're complaining about an "over rated" chant?

More pointing out the irony than complaining. But your defense for doing it being the old "well doesn't everyone else do that too" doesn't make it any less stupid.

Hopefully Wisky wins every game, and OSU does as well, when they meet again in Columbus in early March. Wisky would probably be ranked in the Top 10 and OSU will definitely be in the Top 5. While time is winding down in a good ole OSU ass kicking, what you will probably hear being chanted, actually sang, is exactly what Purdon't heard..... "We Don't Give a Damn for the Whole State of Michigan". (Now for true irony, it might be kinda cool to hear an over rated chanted directed at Bucky Badger in that situation. Nah, fuck Michigan!)

I think every fan base that does it is dumb as shit. Not just Wisconsin, EVERYONE.

my "doesn't everyone else do that too" defense was a response to Wisconsin fans are stupid for chanting "Overrated" thing

But I'll agree with you on its irony. But it seems like the chant actually implies "You are a good team, but we still were able to beat you."
Think about it...

Whatever, its just a chant which in the end is rather meaningless

Well, if a fanbase is going to nickname its coach "Big Game Bob", they'd better expect some shit from opposing fans when they dump a looooong stream of big games. That just sets itself up from the get-go to receive derision from opposing fandom when they lose.

Kinda like the Legends and Leaders deal. :paranoid:

And after setting football back five years in a gamecock uniform in every opener against a very bad ACC opponent?

Not complaining about the chant, just pointing out how goofy it is to chant it and then storm the court. If we (tOSU) were overrated, why storm the court?

Add to this, I think it's silly when any fan base does this really. (the whole overrrated thing)

There are things to complain about... the Eff Ohio chant, the Diebler Swallows chant. Really? I thought college students were supposed to be smarter than average and creativity flows on campus. I think you can do better than base vulgarity.

The Jump around you do for football is a pretty neat sight. Kudos for that. The rest.... not so much.

That being said I expect someone to sell a ton of Buck the Fadgers shirts or something to that extent on or about March 6th or when the Badgers come to town for football next.

To be honest that was the third game I've been too that the "_______ swallows" chant was used.... OSU, MSU, and Purdue.

According to one of my friends they did a "swallows" chant last year at the Purdue game (I didn't have that ticket package that year, so I didn't go.) According to him it really threw the Purdue player off (I think It was Johnson... oh well.)

This year's Purdue game it was in fact Johnson who got the swallows chant.

For the MSU game it was Izzo, which I really don't have a problem with because it seems like Thomas is kind of an @sshole.

If you watch the MSU game though, our chants were 10 times more creative, ranging from "N-I-T" to when Mike Kebler when in "He's an elf!"
"Steal his cookies" almost go started too.

I think the real reason you could REALLY hear the swallows chant is because our student section was actually completely full for once... (don't get me into this...) and we were 20 times rowdier that normal

I think "swallows" is derived from chants like "_______ sucks" (which is a lot less unoriginal), which despite the innuendo is used in a general sense to imply "you're bad". Obviously.
If you put that into account, you could see how "swallows" is somewhat clever. That really doesn't justify its appropriateness I guess though...
To be honest, I really don't have that much of a problem with it, unless it really gets to a point to where you can really hear it, which I kinda now realize after reading people's reactions - even on the Wiscy board.
I'd file it under the "use sparingly" list...

2nd of all, don't mistake the football atmosphere with the basketball atmosphere with the hockey atmosphere. To be honest my freshman year (not counting the Duke game, now that was amazing) I was kinda disappointed with the basketball games (until I found the right people to go with that start cheers and all.)
For the Most Fun Student Interaction Sports, the list would go 1) Men's Hockey 2) Football and 3) Men's basketball. My theory is its just because how the sport is played, as hockey and football have a lot more downtime than basketball, which is constant back and forth.
Hockey and football have their own uniqueness (Hockey has a lot of funny chants) but basketball really didn't have anything special. I think a lot of schools are like that. I mean who doesn't do "Lets go [Mascot]" or "Lets go [Team Color]?" And how much variety exists beyond that?
I actually really wish there were a lot more tradition/jump around type sh*t at the basketball games, but they are fun if you know who to go with.

As alluded to before, most fan bases generally aren't that clever... You get the standard "Let's Go" cheers and "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" when the opposing team is on offense. Unless the opposing team has a player that stands out in a way will you get wittier cheers.

Wow, what a rant...

I'm missing a piece of the puzzle --- Stoops and Oklahoma are Big XII and the team that clobbered them was USC, PAC 8/10/12 with former Heisman Trophy Winner Reggie Bush. Where's the SEC connection?
