Our 2012 bowl game - at Hawaii?? (Not as 13th game, per NCAA sanctions)

USC did that this year - they scheduled Hawaii as the 13th game, it just was played in early September. Hawaii opens at USC in 2012.

The open date for tOSU is Nov 10th, and Hawaii seems to have that date open.

Or it would require Hawaii to move their home date with South Alabama on 12-01-2012.

If Hawaii has half a clue they'd drop USA like a hot potato and schedule us on 12/8. I love the idea, but only as the last game of the season.

Trying to play the game after the final BCS standings come out could be a problem, since it could affect things in the BCS computers after the Title game is determined (wihch I think will be Dec. 2nd next year).

I'm basically rehashing what MaxBuck just said, but OSU and Hawaii will be complete non-players in the BCS equation. And aside from Boise State, I don't think Hawaii plays anyone of possible BCS consequence...

I thought it would be obvious that I was referring to how the game's outcome could affect tOSU's opponents, some of whom are potential BCS Title teams. Even a tOSU win would affect the SOS and computer portion for every tOSU opponent.

Then have them delay the final BCS standings until Dec 9th. 23+ days until the first BCS bowl is plenty of time for fans to make travel plans .

Alabama did the same thing in 2002 when they were on a 2 year bowl ban

Yeah they did, you just can't do it to schedule an EXTRA game like they used to be able to do. So we'll have to take a game off the schedule if we want to put them on it (I assume we've got a full schedule). I imagine that there would be some sort of rule in place that prevented it from being done the week after the conference title games though and I'm not sure what the rule would be about that weekend itself.

Not sure if it's true, but some NCAA higher-ups were [censored]ed that Bama fans were holding up signs mocking their sanctions. I know SC came out here after, but there was talk of the NCAA coming up with something preventing teams on probation to play the thirteenth game. I don't know if anything ever came of it.

I thought that if you scheduled Hawaii you were allowed to add them as a 13th game? I remember hearing that somewhere but I dont know if its true or not.

Per a PM suggestion I just received. Drop Fredo or UCF in the beginning of the 2102 season and go to Hawaii to play the Warriors a week or two after The Game.

Many B1G teams have come out here after the conference schedule was complete: Wisconsin in 1996, Michigan and Northwestern in 1998, Wisconsin in 2000, and Michigan State and Northwestern in 2004, all as their last regular season games. It definitely could be done.

EDIT: Hell, we wouldn't really even have to drop Fredo or UCF...just add Hawaii as a 13th game.

It's an absolutely brilliant idea Mili, and I hope the opportunity is at least being pursued by some tOSU higher-ups. I know that many tOSU fans are adament about Michigan being the last game of the year, but I think most would agree that this would be a tremendous exception to the rule.

I really, really hope this is looked into further.

Yes, you read that right. There could be some serious collateral damage for a school other than USC in the wake of the historic sanctions levied against the Trojans football program last week.

USC is scheduled to open the 2010 season with a road game at Hawaii. However, one of the sanctions included in the NCAA report could preclude that from happening, a scenario Hawaii literally can?t afford.

From the Honolulu Advertiser:
Included in the sanctions against USC is a prohibition against exempted games. On page 57 of its 67-page report, the NCAA?s Division committee on infractions said, ??during the two years of this postseason ban, the football team may not take advantage of the exceptions to the limit in the number of football contests that are provided in Bylaw 17.9.5.2, with the exception of a spring game as set forth in Bylaw 17.9.5.2-(a).?
Bylaw 17.9.5.2, the so-called ?Hawaii Exemption? permits visiting teams to play one game more than the NCAA maximum if traveling to Hawaii.

Alabama used this rule back in 2002 and 2003 in order to circumvent their two-year bowl ban; obviously, the NCAA is intent on not allowing this to happen again.

Guess we would have to see how Ohio State's sanctions are written.

I'm sure the NCAA and the BCS folks will be happy to change things around in order to allow tOSU to schedule a trip to Hawaii on December 8th. :tongue2:

Many of the other bowls await the BCS slots to be determined before they can pick their teams and start promoting their games, so it's not just the BCS bowls that would be affected by a delay.

Great idea!

OK, so who has Urban's email?
Hopefully not Chris Cicero.

Hawaii might be fun for the fans, but I don't think the players would be too excited for a faux bowl against a second-rate program, especially if they are 11-1 heading into that game.
