OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

Good discussion.. and as I said, I'll take the word of u guys who have seen him in person and can pickup those little aspects of his game, that I may have missed..

I do see that he is well advanced in pass protect and I'd take him over nearly every OL recruit in that area.. The point about not being able to get up for his competition is also noteworthy.. some of the inconsistency and lack of real killer instinct may be directly related to to that.. It does seem that one certain plays he's sprinting all over the field and hitting guys, then on others he seems content to just get a little punch shot on a guy, and then watch the play.. Also, I didn't say he has bad footwork.. his footwork is actually very impressive for a player his size, I just said that sometimes the footwork is inconsistent

i made this very point to him on the rivals board as well. the two films aren't even close, and they oddly enough contained footage from the same games.

It's amazing how different they are, isn't it? I was shocked when I watched the new footage that Rivals put up... I thought "wait a minute, I've seen parts of this game before... but where are the good ones?"...

Seems like a balanced view would contain both. Perhaps this is why they currently view him as 4*.

Actually, why "both"? Why would a "highlight" reel contain so-so plays? Highlight reels, by their very definition, contain the best of the performances...

I knew that was coming...

Nonetheless, I'm not sure how these folks compile their video and I have no current reason to believe that Rivals is attempting to intentionally lower Mr Adams ranking. They picked some plays that "highlight" his ability. Some have stated that this film makes him look incredible and others have said it makes him look - really damn good. I guess I don't have a problem with the latter implication, which could be an accurate assessment.

Those were my sentiments exactly as well...and then I saw the SR films. For a lack of better description, Mike is really playing up to his potential this season. His feet are more active, and he is more active getting to the second level guys and pinning them on the ground. I think the JR Mike Adams was probably a 50-100 type of player, but the SR Mike Adams is top 20 material. And the thing is, the kid hasn't reached his potential yet.

Definitely not what you would call a "fatbody" playing left tackle. I think Mike will do just fine next year but starting, no.

*Disclaimer: Alex Boone is not leaving early so Mike will be backing him up next season.
