OT Josh “Jimmy” Simmons (Official Thread)

Jimmy's got all the leverage in this negotiation.
He really doesn’t. He’s injured, and won’t be able to compete in the combine to show any of his talents. He can come back to OSU and get $1.5-2mil or take a chance on the NFL and possibly drop mainly due to his injury.
Like @Captain Buckeye said, he’s a 1st rounder but talent, but when he’s healthy. I’d gladly take him back and not miss losing out on David Sanders or any of the other highly ranked HS recruits

I’m not against paying him. I’m just concerned that he’s going to struggle returning from the injury. He’s a big guy and his weight could be an issue and hamper him.

Are you better off trying to use that money for a the NW tackle or another transfer?

Yep, tough decisions…
I’d pay Simmons because last year he wasn’t great but this year until the injury he was. It took him two years to get the system down. If he recovers he’s a proven commodity.

and yes, I’d still like to pull in two more tackles through the portal and they’re out there.

They need to head for Costco to get the quantity they need to unfuck the OL.
Well there's definitely that and I laughed. But if there is any and I mean any chance to get Simmons back IF (caps intended) he's healthy, go all in. The OL could look seriously brutal otherwise.

But still be pushing the cart that requires a CDL at Costco regardless.

You would have a better idea than me but what 2 starters and a depth guy at tackles? Maybe one more IOL starter quality type?

Even more interesting when some guys have had a few years to bank NIL money and don’t need the NFL payday the way they used to.
I was at a Cincinnati CBB game today and talking to my buddy about that. We were talking about some former Bearcat players who were at the school for several years and barely did anything, but they still hit the Portal for other teams. And they’re pretty much utilizing the Portal to stay in college and gain a check rather than going over seas since most won’t make the NBA. We’ll see that even more in CFB with the teams being bigger.

Complicated question. We don't have an answer other than Montgomery at RT. Then zero depth. This is the exact problem that we recruitniks were concerned about. We need to focus on OT, love Lowe but he's not a Day 1 guy even if he's not far off.

Perhaps we rock the Portal and all is good. But we better do that, or we're screwed. I can't mince words there. IOL should be good, but OT I'm concerned about if we don't hit the Portal hard.

Well if we don’t address the OL in a big way then seriously just start preparing yourself for a 3+ loss season next year during the regular season.

Ain’t no damn way we go through Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, TCUN, Penn State, and USC with the current group.

You aren’t asking me obviously but the way I’m thinking about it is who’s coming back that we KNOW is really good.

I think Hinzman is starters quality but then who else really? sure 65 and 77 have started but are they strong returning starters? I don’t really think so.

You have to hope someone like Ian Moore takes a step and maybe Montgomery or the Armstrongs too.

I think we need 2 tackles and 1 interior that can start.

Moore has to make the next step without a doubt and I think he should be ready to if he puts the work in. Key word is "think" to your point, but I think he is a RT fit. Montgomery for sure has to become the player that we thought we had coming in and he showed signs of becoming that guy and again to your point though, we don't know yet.

As for LT, man I hope Simmons changes his mind and we get him some NIL funds. Sure we can hit the portal, but we have a known commodity there if he is healthy. Plus I look across the roster and don't see a LT that is ready unless the taller Armstrong make some big strides...I would love to be wrong, but I always picture it being 2-3 years before he would be ready to play. Either we have to back up the Brinks truck to change Simmons' mind or hit a big one in the portal at LT (and two more if we can if not anything more than for quality depth).
