OT Dawand Jones (All B1G, All-American, Cleveland Browns)

Sir Gregor at right tackle, a mountain of a man. This is one of many highlight clips where you can see him just dominating someone. There have been so many times I see him just kicking some defensive guys ass where it doesn't even seem fair. This dude was a diamond in the rough recruiting wise...I remember when the recruitniks got so concerned over having to "settle" for Dawand.
“Other than this kids offer list, he's not much more than a Plan B prospect, IMO. Not trying to bash, just be honest. Most of his top schools cooled off, I'm sure due to his size and having next to no technique. He's going to need at least 2yrs to be even 2 deep ready at minimum.”

I dissent.
How are you coming to the conclusion top schools are backing off?
He has picked up recent offers from Texas, FSU, PSU.
Was recently named lineman of the year in Indiana.
The fact that his primary sport was hoops is intriguing.
To me it indicates he has good feet and a ton of untapped potential on the gridiron when it becomes his focus.
I’d be excited to procure him, it’s not like we have 5 tackle commits in this class.
The reward outweighs the risk.

@cdiddy70 were you the coach that offered him? Because this was about spot on as it could be.

At the time, all of that was probably fair tbh. I was a tad skeptical, but liked the upside with his size and athleticism. But he has taken his God-given ability and turned it into an NFL draft campaign. You love to see that and from all accounts he is a great kid, so you have to be enthralled to see him do what he is doing. He is always the first one to celebrate a TD no matter how it happens, you just have to love Dawand.
I think he was one of the projects Stud went after because in true Stud fashion, he whiffed on ALL of his top targets. Thank god he worked out, but the names that he missed on in 2019 was: Darnell Wright, Kenyon Green, Wanya Morris and Quinn Carroll. He was the 86th ranked OT. He had a lot of great attributes that ended up working out in the end. And I think the success we started to have with Jones gave Stud a little benefit of the doubt when he took so many other flyers on players ranked in the same range as Jones in other classes.

But you can't help but root for the guy, like you said it's great seeing him being one of the first guys to celebrate in the endzone after TDs. And its insane watching someone with his size move the way he does on the OL. I was hoping that he wasn't just another massive OL using his weight against smalled DL in HS, and he was at first. But now we're seeing him turn into a legit NFL prospect.

Also, peek at Dawand Jones at RT

That's probably over 359 lbs, too.

I'm glad somebody is bringing up the "strike timing", because when you're THAT large of an OT, your initial 'punch' on any edge rusher is vital in winning that rep.

DJ will never have the feet of Joe Thomas, and that's perfectly fine. As long as he does his best imitation of Mike Tyson (minus the ear biting) on pass rushers, he can find success in the NFL.
Next step for Big Thanos, not letting his arms get too wide on him, I call it the Predator stance, and exposing his chest to rushers.

edit: Not that I'm trying to sound overly critical. Dawand has made noticeable improvement since last season, a testament to his work ethic. Just hoping big guy isn't content and keeps pushing.
