OSU Wrestling (2008 and 2009 NCAA Runners-up)

Sponseller was close to the escape at the end of the 3rd period. Instead he lost in OT. OSU started the day ahead of Iowa by around 8 points I think. Sponseller winning would have been a huge lift in the team standings over Iowa. Pucillo wrestles pretty soon.

OSU is leading Iowa, up by 8.5 going into the semis tonight. OSU has four in the semis and four in the consolation. Iowa has three in the semis and six in the consolation. Not sure what all of the brackets look like, but Pucillo will be facing the #7 seed from Rider, who upset #2 Keddy from Iowa in sudden death. Looks like Pucillo/Herbert is a strong possibility in the finals.

For those in the know, does Palmer have any kind of chance against Metcalf? Can someone preview this match?

Metcalf is, perhaps, the best college wrestler in the nation today. But Palmer has been wrestling very well, and it's one match. Does he have a chance? Yes, but it will have to be his best match.

Hey CleveBucks,

I count only two Hawkeyes in the semis tonight (Metcalf and Morningstar), but four for the Buckeyes (Humphrey, Jaggers, Palmer, and Pucillo).

But I count six Hawkeyes alive in the consolation bracket (Falck, Dennis, Tsirtsis, Borschel, and Ereksen) and only two for the Bucks (Triggas and Sponsellor).

I've been trying to track it electronically, so I may have missed something. Either way, it's going to be a wild evening. Those who survive tonight earn All-American.

GO BUCKS!!

[Ooops, my mistake (cleve too), they are still wrestling. There is another consolation round this afternoon before we get to tonight's matches - Triggas is on the mat now, tied 2-2]

For us neophytes, how does the team scoring go? Same as regular? 3 pts for point win, six for pin, 5(?) for major decision? Being up 2 with 4 in semis, and Iowa with 2 in semis and one to go (he lost) seems like not alot of cushion there. But if the guys in the wrestlebacks can score points too, (at the same level?), then OSU might not hold on.

Wouldn't that be grand. 8th in Big Ten, and 1st in nation! Hard to believe. Another point, it's great to see so many B10ers ranked highly and always on the mats........
