I know that I am a bit slow at times:wink: but could someone who knows tell me how they recruit can reclassify this late in the game.. I would assume that he has all of his college prep courses done in high school but why would a recruit (football or basketball) wait this late in the game before reclassifying. There is also the small chore of getting admitted to a university this late in the game..

I'm not sure on the university transcripts and mechanics of the sitution, but the reason for the reclass is entirely because of a coach's needs. I can only think of desperate situations where it's employed. Jallow, wanting to come to Ohio State, was willing to reclassify because Holtmann needs him now.

Similar thing happened at Duke two years ago with Derryck Thornton. Duke lost Tyus Jone somewhat unexpectedly to the draft, and was left with no viable PG. Thornton wasn't ready to play PG at the ACC level, though, so it wasn't a great turn of events. Thornton went back to California and will be at SC this year.

I think it can work with Jallow because we'll not need huge minutes from him and it won't (likely) be at PG.

I understand the reason why a kid would reclassify but I just do not understand the "mechanics of the situation". I remember, very vaguely:biggrin:, when I was in high school I wanted to graduate after my junior year also:lol:. I guess I am just wondering how it works when a kid is a junior and then all of a sudden says he wants to graduate from high school and play basketball/football in college. It seems like guys throughout the words that a recruit is going to reclassify but no one knows how that reclassification comes about.

Musta Jallow appears to be an excellent student. He's no doubt passed any graduation tests his district requires, and presumably satisfies all all entry requirements of tOSU.

I do not know what has changed in high school and entry requirements for college over 35 years but as long as high school grad requirements are met for the state and entry requirements (classes and test scores) are met for the university, that student can graduate early and enroll in college. I know of a few I went to school with.

Great start in recruiting for Chris! I would say he has made up for the loss of Goodwin with the Watson commit. Plus plenty of time to add a PG. The group of guards/wings is starting to come together for 2018-19.

I still am going to guess Chris will get a grad transfer guard to add to 2018-19, give them some experience and predictable production. Especially since he likes to be guard-heavy.

i think what will be most interesting to watch during the july evaluation period is the focus that holt & co. place on pf/c targets. potter and kaleb for '08-'09 won't be nearly sufficient. though the grad transfer market will be an option if nothing conventional happens, waiting until march+ for a "maybe" is a complete crapshoot.

in regards to the post players the staff may watch this month, i don't have a clue. not at all.

Remember how the 2011 class for bigs was so bad that Amir Williams was a McD AA?

I won't say the 2018 class for bigs is quite that weak but, uh, yeah, it's pretty weak. Pretty much the only T150 frontcourt player that this staff had a relationship with was Bingham, now he's off the table.

To be honest, a grad transfer would probably be their best bet to add a big that could actually contribute for 2018-2019. I imagine the staff is already working hard on building relationships with 2019 bigs. I just don't see any real possibilities for them in the 2018 class. Darius Days is probably the closest thing to that and he's really not a center, at all, and will probably pick Florida.

I remember Frank Kaminsky was in that class. Point being, there are great prospects that can be developed in every class at every position. You just have to have an eye for players who can grow and teach them, don't just try to find the most college-ready players.

I'm really hopeful for this. There was an epidemic of the opposite down the stretch (with varying limitations), and it started when they were led by the hardest working buckeye in awhile.
