I honestly don't know if you can pen Jeremiah Francis in as an automatic. Penn in 20, yes, as long as nothing turns sour with Scoonie in the next couple of years, but Francis kind of views himself as an Indiana kid from his youth when his dad was bouncing around as a coach. He plays with Indy kids for AAU and has a good relationship with Painter at Purdue. We probably lead, but you never know.
schrage and pedon have touched base with a 6'8" power foward out of south carolina by the name of jimmy nichols, jr. 247's composite ranking undervalues him at 239th (3-star). pitt, miami, and georgetown are his top offers, so an offer from ohio state should be competitive. provided he's a decent student with a decent attitude and is not a cat killer, i hope holtmann offers.
some of the stuff nichols exhibits in the long highlight video below really grabbed my attention. i was hooked once i saw 0:41. nichols' shot is pure, and his mid-range use of the glass tells me he has a healthy upside. once he strengthens the lower half, look out.
just in the last month, moeller's jaxson hayes has received offers from butler, xavier, and texas, among others. at 6'10", he is very much a project. his junior stats were underwhelming to say the least, but the ceiling is very high for a bouncy beanpole learning how to deal with the ten inches he's grown since freshman season. shaka wouldn't need for hayes to produce quickly because the frontcourt commitments for his '16 and '17 classes are otherworldly. holtmann, on the other hand, doesn't have the luxury of time that deep positional talent provides, so i don't foresee an ohio state offer being extended.
his recruitment sure is heating up. my guess is it's in part due to his projection and in part due to the shallow pool of post players in the '18 class. in regards to ohio state, i know the recruiting emphasis has been placed on the backcourt, but the frontcourt for '18 will be frighteningly thin unless a ready-to-go 4/5 joins the team. i'm not sure hayes is that guy. maybe holt will still offer him. i don't know. i just hope we secure a player who is less of a project.Good call on Hayes. He's been offered by Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin, and a video of him playing AAU with Romeo Langford indicates that even Kentucky and Carolina have been in contact. I can see the interest. Late-bloomer who was a 6-6 Tight End prospect in football just a year ago! I see enough co-ordination there to merit an offer, without hesitation. We don't need bigs in the next two years with the same urgency that we need guards.
Perfect way to rebuild the program. My non-expert view is that Holt is targeting talent that resides just below one-and-done.
I'm okay with that.
