OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Definitely seems like a shift in recruiting strategy of late. Any why wouldn't they after watching Giddens, Mitchell, Grandstaff and Harris leave town, even if Harris is an Ohio kid.

I wonder about the strength of his assistants recruiting outside of Dickerson. His name is the only one you ever hear.

I think that's a big problem with the lack of quality assistants. Drop off in my opinion from the quality of guys when Thad first started

As far not landing the big fish I think any non blue blood program is gonna have trouble going far outside their area to McDonald's AA caliber guys

Outside of Shannon Scott I don't think Thad landed a burger boy from Ohio or a surrounding state. Ohio hasn't put out the elite talent other than the Kennard/Bragg class. Indiana pipeline has been shut down with other programs being up in the area

Ohio State is taking a look at the following recruit from Michigan..
* Perhaps another option in 2017: Smith and Walker are at the top of Ohio State's wish list for this cycle, but keep the name Eric Williams in mind. The former Division II commit from New Haven, Michigan has been drawing some Division I interest, including some from Ohio State. He could be a potential target for a late add if Smith and Walker don't work out, or even if they do. More guards are needed.

Cannot get very excited about him but I can get excited about his teammate who already has an Ohio State offer but is in the class of 2019.

Articles mentioning a lot about guards being a priority. Not sure if the staff doesn't trust Beverly, or what. We obviously offered Smith of Illinois and Cohill, but I just don't see the need to worry about guards until the '19 class. We will get at least two good guards in that class, I am quite sure. Looks like snaring Cohill, Hunter, or Pete Nance are the current targets.

Still between us, TSUN, Tennessee, and DePaul for grad-transfer Daniels.

Cameron Johnson of Pitt is visiting tomorrow. He visited Kentucky and will visit Arizona also. Don't know who else he's considering.

Elijah Long of Mount St. Mary's is another name to keep in mind, but he wouldn't be available next year. Apparently the Bucks have contacted the six-footer, who has two years left of eligibility.

No news out of Daniel, who we pretty much desperately need at this point if we're going to do anything next year. I did not realize he missed all but two games last year, averaging 27 ppg in 2015-2016. I don't see how we aren't the most appealing option at this point, seeing as there is room for him to chuck 15 or more shots a game on this team. Any 2017's out there we could still snag?

I know it's not going to happen, but I would even take a flyer on Torey Patton of Trotwood and Jayvon Graves of Akron. Both of them strike me as under-recruited guys who just ball. They would probably switch from Akron and Buffalo, wouldn't they?

We need bodies.

I guess I would rather save the scholarship considering next season is going to be pretty bad and I am usually pretty optimistic when it comes to the basketball program. If there is a change in the HC after next season,, the more scholarships available the better and these two guys would just be, as you mentioned, bodies.

Today's Bucknuts Boarding House has news on Daniel. It's part of the $ portion of the article though

Minus Kam, Jae'Sean, and Joey Lane, plus Ahrens and Goodwin, we are looking at needing to add four more scholarship players next year. That's just crazy talk. You aren't going to get that many quality guys in a class this late (would be six total), so they might as well stock up on a body or two this year. I think they need to pull a 2017 out of the air to at least make this season respectable, in terms of just fielding a team (even MAC-level talent). Lane doesn't even deserve to count, and we can't really count on KBD for a full season. We are looking at maybe 8 roster slots filled next year. Everyone gets in the "rotation"!
