OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Yeah, I was hoping for Kam and Daniel to come in so we could have a semblance of a team, but it doesn't even matter at this point. Kam might as well leave also, just to drive the point home.

Without Kam and without a healthy KBD, no, we cannot come close to scrimmaging. I guess one side gets Paulus and one side gets Chris Jent?

How did it get this bad? There's no other explanation than Matta has completely lost "it". If you can't convince a guy like Daniel to come in and jack up some shots, its pretty much over.

I love this list. Starts with going after Young, if that's even possible, and retaining Goodwin. Then going after Pete Nance, Jerome Hunter, Dwayne Cohill and Marcus Bingham from Michigan, who is a 6-10 top 100 player that seemed to be favoring Butler. Then you start building relationships with Jordan Mitchell, Dominiq Penn and Jeremiah Francis. That would be my blueprint as well. Bazley is on the list as well but I don't see that happening.

What is the deal with Young? He hasn't enrolled, I'm assuming, but he did sign an LOI. If he decides he wants to join Holtmann in Columbus this year, does he have to pay his own way, or what?

As far as building relationships, I assume he already has reached out to some of the top 18 and 19 guys in the last year, only now they see him representing the Bucks...gotta be a good thing.

if young asks butler for a release from his letter of intent, is not granted the release, but goes to ohio state anyway, then young will not be permitted to play next season. whether he has a scholarship his first year at ohio state will be up to ohio state.

by the way, i would not recommend that a highly-valued recruit sign a letter of intent to a mid-major or to a program whose coach's seat is at least warm. the nli binds the player to the school, not the coach. if the coach climbs the latter or is ousted, the player won't have the freedom to change his mind without major penalties. the nli benefits the school far more than it does the player.

I cannot see the list because I am not a subscriber but going on what you have posted if we got Young I do not think we would need Bazley or Ahrens. It will be interesting to see if they get reoffered.

So from what I've been reading, our recruiting has improved in 6 hours. Thank gawd.
There's definitely a palpable excitement about the hire on social media amongst recruits. Not surprising at all as Holtmann is a well regarded coach and recruiter, and has pre-existing relationships with a lot of these kids. I'd expect a pretty swift turnaround recruiting-wise once Coach Holt gets has his staff assembled and they hit the trail.

For you basketball junkies, there is an excellent Land Grant Holy Grant iTunes podcast. This podcast not only covers recruiting but also has some very good information regarding Coach Holtmann, Coach Matta, and Jeff Boals. I have posted some of this information in some of the BP threads but listening to the podcast is a real treat.

To get the answers, we chatted with an old friend, Zach Fleer, the owner of 270Hoops, and perhaps the biggest expert on Ohio high school hoops, and especially Columbus-area high school hoops, to get the straight dope on what needs to happen next for the Buckeyes.

I felt a lot more excited about talking to Zach. I think you will too.

You can find the podcast on our iTunes page, and we strongly encourage reviews, comments, criticisms, etc. to help us deliver the best possible audio product.

Not sure if this has been posted

A big question surrounding the hiring of Holtmann is whether or not he'll bring any of his 2017 commits from Butler to Columbus with him. That's still unclear, though one of those players -- guard Aaron Thompson -- retweeted this story from the Columbus Dispatch on Friday.

Thompson is a three-star guard in the 2017 class from Virginia. He hasn't signed a National Letter of Intent with Butler, so he could transfer seamlessly. He's also a player Ohio State showed some interest in before he committed to the Bulldogs.
