OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Just going to so some thoughts out there...

I do believe with the class coming in next year we will compete for national title...

Word is we might be out look for a late pick up at the point, but at this point I don't see us being able to pick up anyone that is going to be any more ready than what we are going to have with Noopy and PJ next year...

We have all heard about BJ tearing it up...Kid is going to be a force next year...I think it may take a couple weeks to get used to the size of some of the guys he will be playing against, but he will be fine...He will not be getting pushed around like KK has some this year...I look for BJ and Canal to make it to Columbus this year for the state tourney...I also believe he is a one and done...

Buford is another that I believe will be a one and done...We will be loaded on the wing next year with Lighty, Turner, Diebler, and Wallace back, but Buford could be the most talented of all of them and will probably get the starting gig, if he has no problems adjusting to the college game and playing defense, which I do not believe he will...

Haven't heard much on Offut since his injury, and I do believe with how loaded we will be in the backcourt that there is a solid chance that he might take a redshirt...Offut is incredibly talented and I think might be able to help with handling the ball some in the backcourt next year, but I think a redshirt would be a better situation for him...I think that Offut is a 4 year player...

Crater is playing at Brewster so basically he is playing a whole season against kids that will be going on to play college ball and also playing with them as well, so he is doing a good job of distributing the ball and playing the point very well...I think that Hill could start the season off with the job and do see a little bit of a transition period for Noopy to the college game, but do believe that he will be a very good player in his time here...I also believe that he is a 4 year player...

I really wished that we could of landed a 4 in this class, but as long as KK comes back we will be fine there with KK, Lauderdale, and Madsen...Also Lighty and Wallace could steal minutes there...

I am still working on putting a list of names that we are really interested in for the 09' class, but I really believe that we need to land a wing/pg to go along with a big, because I believe that KK and Mullens will be gone after next year and we will only be left with Lauderdale and Madsen...Would love to see us pull in Riley or Sidney, but both are going to be tough to pull in...Van Treese is another option that we have an offer out to...Not sure on the wings besides guys that seem to be long shots like Henry, Boynton, Strickland, etc...

As for the 10' class we have put together a very good class...

Saw film of Golden today for the first time and kid is a stud...He is so smooth, and has a complete game...If he continues to get bigger and better, he could be a one and done type...I hope he progresses more as a PG than a SG because we have a bigger need for a PG than SG...

Sullinger is having a big year...I made my thoughts known on him after his game as the schott...I don't see him as being a one and done type player, he has lots of potential, but a lot of that has to do with him growing into his body...

Thomas is a kid that has a ton of talent will be a starter when he steps on the court, he has a college ready body right now, but his game has to catch up to his body, but once he gets here he will have an even better shot than he has now and even better off the bounce...Get is a one and done type player as well...

Wright is a kid that still needs to progress, but fits the prototype for the wings that we have been recruiting long and athletic...He needs work on his overall game, but the potential is there...

I think we might see us wait a while on where to go next in terms of people leaving early and what players develop into and what our needs might be...I think there might be a need for another pg in this class especially with Golden maybe being a one and done type, and there might also be a need for another big to go along with Sullinger, but what position, because we don't really know what position SUllinger will grow into quite yet...He is more of a PF body right now..

I still think that Kellogg has a slight chance at an offer if he grows 2-3 more inches and can develop his game more into a PG type game...

SHould be interesting to see where we go from here and in terms of what we do for the 09' class...

Either way we are going to be loaded with tons of talent, while most of it will be young and might not reach their potential here, but we are also recruiting guys that won't leave after one year and will bring lots of leadership to us, guys like Lighty, Diebler, Turner, Wallace, Hill, Lauderdale, Offut, Crater, Wright willl be sprinkled in with the one and done talent and that is how you really build a program...

Well, with the news about Moore, I really don't know what to think. I was also hoping that they might be looking in the junior college ranks for a guy who could play the 4 and now it is possible that we might offer Moore. While I am all for the local kids, I am really not that high on him. I thought if we did not get a PF for 08 we would bank the scholarship for the 2009 class. However, if 3 guys leave after 2008 we really would not need an additional scholarship. Maybe that is why they are looking at Moore but we really need to get someone who can play the natural 4 position for 2009 and if KK would declare after this year we really would be hurting at the 4 position.

I am fine with the 2010 class but just am very confused as to what they are doing for the 2009 class and even next year. I am not that happy with Hill running the point guard position and Crater will just be a freshman. I do not think we can make a run at the National championship with Hill or a freshman running the point.

I know there is a lot of time left before next year but usually there are some rumblings if we are in on anyone nationally.

I don't think Crater is going to be your average frosh...I think he will take a little time, but Brewster plays a schedule of 36 games and each one they are playing against teams with a lot of college level players...

I really think that his move to Brewster was the best thing for him...He will have experience in big times games and be used the speed of the game moreso than if he was still at Flint...

I am not as down on Hill as some are...By the start of the season next year he will have 2 years of college ball under his belt, which will lead to him being more confident and hopefully more in control of his game...

Mullens will go through a transition period, I have always thought it was harder for post players to adjust due to the simple fact they are not used to being challenged by players there own size every night.

Buford is another that I believe will be a one and done...

He will be better than Daequan in my opinion.....instant impact.

Haven't heard much on Offut since his injury,

He is almost a sure RS at this point, combine the injury with the numbers on the wing.

Crater is playing at Brewster so basically he is playing a whole season against kids that will be going on to play college ball and also playing with them as well,

Crater is the wild card. Will he be able to be the PG we need or will we struggle another year with replacing Conley? He is a pure PG and I think he will be fine.

I agree that with Crater and Hill we should be fine. Maybe some growing pains early, but improving all year and should be very good come tourney time.

I look at it like this J But is a good point guard, but the way I see it, he basically breaks the pressure and brings it up court, then he is more of a combo guard as his shooting is his strength and penetration is a weakness (in my opinion)

I think Crater and Hill can bring the ball handling to the table, and with Lighty, Turner, Diebs, and Buford, there will be help for the PG at multiple spots (much like this year)

I also think that if tOSU continues to play well in the zone, that a true #4 is not as important, if your three big wings hit the boards. Against Tennesee (albeit a three guard team) Turner played a lot of #4 and rebounded and defended well from the zone.

It sure will be fun watching this young talented team adjust to the revolving door of incredible talent coming and going.

.
Even if we do not play zone next year I agree with you that as long as the three big wing players hit the boards we will be fine but they haven't this year which is what I don't understand about this year's team with regards to rebounding.

Who get some playing time

I don't want to put this in the Buford thread because it could get messy. However, when everyone says that Buford is going to be a one and done what is going to happen with Turner and Lighty playing time next year. Assuming that KK stays someone's minutes will have to be reduced significantly or some guys are not going to be very happy. I guess Buford could play Cook minutes and if he is that good and wants to leave after one year I guess he could be a one and done. Maybe I have answered my own question about who is going to get the minutes next year.
