Mackey facing felony drug charges

georgetown news
Bud Mackey had the high school basketball world in the palm of his hand six months ago, helping lead Scott County to the Sweet 16 state championship.

That world took a hit Friday when Mackey was arrested on two felony drug charges.
Mackey was released from the Scott County Detention Center at 9:35 a.m. Saturday on a $10,000 cash bond, deputy jailer Marsha Campbell said.

Mackey, 18, had arrived at the detention center at 5:09 p.m. Friday after being charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance cocaine first offense, a Class C felony, and trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, a Class D felony.

A Class C felony is punishable by 5-10 years imprisonment, plus a fine between $1,000 and $10,000, according to Kentucky Revised Statutes. For a Class D felony, the potential penalties are 1-5 years imprisonment and a fine between $1,000 and $10,000.

...

Mackey, who verbally committed to play college basketball at Indiana University, was named MVP of the 2007 state tournament and was one of the leading contenders for Kentucky's Mr. Basketball this season.

mackey is (probably was) a premium commit for iu's 2008 class. he is the #5 point guard on scout's list and the #35 overall player (#5 shooting guard) on rivals' list.

Nice pic! Turner and Wallace look like they're about the same height. I thought Wallace would be a little taller but he is built for Big 10 play. Turner needs to bulk up a little I would think but he is the only a freshman.

Apparently Kosta needs some confidence to him :wink2:.

In all reality, my bro-in-law was at a recent OSU practice via a coaches clinic, and he texted me pics and thoughts.

"Koufos is huge, one and done."

"Diebler looks polished."

"Gotta run, beer:30."

I haven't connected the last one with any relevance to the team, but thanks for the pic, and I think we are in very very good shape with this crew.

If Wright is going to verbal this weekend, Golden might as well also. I don't think Thomas has to "verbal" twice. With Golden and Wright in the fold along with Thomas and Sullinger, TM can start working on 2011 along with cleaning up 2009 and giving Jones.

Man that would of been like a dream conversation just 4 years ago...Now it is a very real possibility...
