Bud Mackey had the high school basketball world in the palm of his hand six months ago, helping lead Scott County to the Sweet 16 state championship.
That world took a hit Friday when Mackey was arrested on two felony drug charges.
Mackey was released from the Scott County Detention Center at 9:35 a.m. Saturday on a $10,000 cash bond, deputy jailer Marsha Campbell said.
Mackey, 18, had arrived at the detention center at 5:09 p.m. Friday after being charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance cocaine first offense, a Class C felony, and trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, a Class D felony.
A Class C felony is punishable by 5-10 years imprisonment, plus a fine between $1,000 and $10,000, according to Kentucky Revised Statutes. For a Class D felony, the potential penalties are 1-5 years imprisonment and a fine between $1,000 and $10,000.
