OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

With EJ and Gaffney coming in, I really do not know where Rodrick would fit with Luther, Washington and Ahrens already here. I just did not see the need for him. I see a need for a big man (Diallo or maybe a transfer) because as I have said before we really do not have a backup plan for when Wesson graduates. I know that is two years down the pike but I would like to have someone in here learning out to play the 5 position in the Big Ten.
agree with all of that. it would be one thing if roderick were a quick small forward who plays above he rim, but he's no more athletic than andre.

jmo but we need pg's, big men. I don't see Luther starting again, he needs to come off the bench until his scoring improves.
We have a PG transfer (Walker) who will be able to play next season. You can read about him in the main Ohio State recruiting forum. I also think that Washington might be able to play a little PG.
Regarding the big man, I guess that is one reason I would like to see Diallo come here. If not him, a big man transfer from I do not know where:wink:

I think we need two true pg's not an adapted one, and two new big men, insert wink here. Think about it. Right now I see washington and Ahrens as our outside scorers now add in the two new pg's and Big men.
Fifth man???

if carton, walker, and washington prove not to be sufficient for point guard duties, then something will be horribly wrong. getting a point guard for 2020 has much more to do with 2021 than anything else. and in my opinion, we don't need a true point guard for 2020. instead, give me a ballhandling/distributing combo guard with length or a playmaking small forward with athleticism.

In my mind this is a true point guard. "A shooting, ballhandling/distributing combo guard with length, and the ability to drive".
I think Washington should stay strictly at shooting guard. But to be truthful no starter on the team impressed me.

I simply do not know how you can look at these past few games and think we do not need to add more offensive skill. And Roderick has a lot offensive skill, he has a lot more tools in his toolbox than any of our current wings or guards.

I guess maybe some of you are just extra hopeful about how our returning guys are going to develop.

There is almost no overlap between the skills that Roderick has and the other 2019 guys. He is a far better shooter and ballhandler than Liddell and Gaffney, and he is a better shooter than Carton while being 4 inches taller.

Ahrens is the one guy who might develop into someone who would make Roderick redundant, IF Ahrens makes huge strides with his ballhandling and becomes adept at finishing with either hand on drives to the basket. I think that might be asking a lot of Ahrens, who is much more likely to become a 3-pt specialist than he is a 3-level scorer.

Duane is maybe the next guy up that you could point to but Duane is much more a guard who will be shooting off the dribble or facilitating. Roderick gives you another guy who can catch and shoot along with Duane and Ahrens but he also gives you a guy who can make some drives with his craftiness, he can post up at times, he is a really good passer. He is a multi-dimensional tool on offense, he produces at a very high level in a tough district, and he loves Ohio State and would represent this school and program to the fullest.

I agree that we need to add more offensive firepower to the team but I do not believe that BR is going to bring all of what you think he would bring. He is playing against high school players. Also, if he is as good as you think he is why does not he have any major college offers:huh:

I do not know how you can say this unless you have seen all 4 of these guys play. Just because a guy is a better shooter, not saying that BR is, does not mean that he will be a better basketball player in college.
