OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

he is? given that newman is a bit of a late bloomer, that he'll be playing in florida next season, and that he's probably not going to commit until the spring, i would have assumed that his top 4 or whatever won't be released for a while.

Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, and Xavier. While Franklin is the same but without Ohio State which I assume is the optimism coming from Nomatta.

it would be nice to keep these types of posts in the individual recruit's thread because why were they even created…last week in the Franklin thread I posted that he is probably down to Purdue and Indiana with Purdue holding a slight lead…according to the gurus

The topic came up so it felt appropriate to post in this thread, but it is easily repeatable in an individual thread.

@QualityLoss I move this from the Gaffney thread because I knew where it would be going.
It would be nice to keep the basketball recruit's forum tidy:wink:

It's a good question. What will our depth chart look like 2019 assuming no transfers?

Carton/Walker
Luther/Duane/Jallow
Andre/Gaffney/Ahrens
Young/Ledee/EJ
Wesson/Potter

Honestly, when I list it out like this, I really think we are due for a few transfers
If Gaffney is as good as they say he is getting with 1 more year of prep school, I think he will share minutes if not get more minutes then the older Wesson but it is way to early to start predicting that type of situation..
I would also disagree with Young/Ledee/EJ but again it is way too early to start even thinking about that.
Regarding transfers… Oh my.

Acknowledging that a lot of our guys will be playing a couple different spots on the floor, I see the 2019-2020 roster (if we have no transfers, and definitely not going to assume EJ Liddell yet) like this:

Carton / Walker
Muhammad / Washington
Jallow / Gaffney / Ahrens
Andre / Young / Ledee
Kaleb / Potter

At any point we might play a 3-guard line-up that could see one of Muhammad or Washington playing some at the 3. Jallow and Ahrens might occasionally see some time at the 2 if we need more size in the backcourt. Gaffney might split his minutes between the 3 and the 4. Ledee might actually play more at the 5 than the 4 depending on foul trouble with the bigs.

It is difficult to see a comfortable fit for EJ, or for one of the other forwards, without a transfer happening before 2019-2020. That won't be as much of an issue the following season with Andre and Potter graduating out of the frontcourt, but for 2019-2020 it does look a little crowded.

That said, I'd be pretty surprised if we have zero transfers after this coming season. I was concerned that we heard basically no mention of Jallow from the Spain games. Box scores would have helped a lot and of course maybe he was really good on the defensive end for all we know, but at some point in his career (and probably sooner than later), he is gonna have to figure out what he can do to deliver some sort of consistent production.

Young had one good game in Spain but he's another guy I am keeping an eye on. This season is his chance to carve out a niche before the 2019 class comes in. If he can't do that, he could easily be looking for a better situation for himself.

I tend to think that most of the freshmen will probably give it more than just one year before seriously thinking about transferring, but I do think there is some possibility of a transfer with Ledee if he's not happy with his role or how things look for him going forward, just because he is so far from home to begin with and had lots of interest from B12 schools.

This conjecture isn't in any way trying to belittle any of these guys, as in fact we're talking about 3 of the higher upside guys on the current roster, and any one of them could easily end up a major contributor for us this coming season. It's just speaking from a purely situational perspective, with freshmen like Muhammad and Washington probably having a little more opportunity in the backcourt than Ledee has in the frontcourt (and Ahrens being an Ohio boy), Kaleb a sure-fire starter, Andre having played big minutes last season even when we had KBD and Tate (so we know the staff's a fan) and him being a junior like Potter, so they are a little more entrenched in the roster.

To me Jallow has the biggest opportunity of the guys I mentioned that might be weighing their options after this season is done. In fact, Musa has a great chance to seize that starting 3 spot... but he really needs to step it up. His shot hasn't looked good in the limited practice stuff we've seen so far from this summer and not hearing about any contributions from him in Spain just makes me wonder if he's gonna get it done this season. But it's super early.

Four-star Isaac Johnson schedules two visits
Isaac Johnson, a four-star prospect in the 2019 class, remains one of the most coveted prospects on the West Coast. While the plan is for Johnson to take an LDS two-year mission before college, thus placing him in the 2021 class, he has scheduled his first two official visit dates while others are in the works.

...

Outside of the two official visits scheduled, Johnson stated that he is hoping to get to BYU, Ohio State and Gonzaga before he comes to his college decision. Expect for more trips to be lined up prior to signing in November.

same day as nnaji's unofficial.
Wahab has no plans on stopping as he plans to visit UConn on Aug. 19, Ohio State on Aug. 25

I do not quite understand where we are going after these two big guys. Maybe the staff does not feel too confident in getting Loveday next year. I understand that they need contingency plans in case EJ does not come here but these two are really around the basket type players.

getting nnaji would be great, but, yeah, wahab doesn't exactly get my juices going. lorca-lloyd, too. my hope is that the guy we get for 2019 is able to play at least some minutes at the 3. liddell, williamson, and williams are the guys i want the most.
