OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

It's crazy how much guard depth is changing from last season to 2019. Going from having two pretty lightly-regarded players and a walk-on to a stable of 4 thoroughbreds. Feel good for next year, but it does worry me that it seems like the timing & potential numbers crunch will make it hard for OSU to have a spot open for Dom.

Oh you can believe they will have room for him

if i were to hazard a guess, i'd guess that the staff's boards for 2019 and 2020 have liddell, loveday, and jackson at the top.

I see Jackson as more of a CG and depending on how much more he grows he may turn into more of 2G. Not that it makes a difference he would still be probably the most sought after player in the state or at least at the moment.

i don't disagree. his own high school coach labels jackson as a point guard, but zeb is pretty much a point/combo/shooting guard mesh. however, looking at the staff's 2020 offers and interests, they've certainly prioritized the shooting guard position. i do think jackson's ball-handling and play-making skills are absolutely strong enough to satisfy the guard needs in the 2020 class, which i assume to include loveday or at least a tall wing/post player. my prior assumption was that penn would ultimately be a buckeye. i've become less and less certain about that, though. i think it would be easier on the staff if 2020 were a 3-player class. i wouldn't be shocked if another scholarship does open up, but that may not happen for at least another year or two.

If one of those things happens, I’d assume he will try to add a 4th player.
if there is attrition before the 2019-20 season, i think ho1tmann would save the scholarship for the 2020 class. that flexibility would solve some issues for 2020 and create better roster balance (i.e., 4-3-3 versus 4-4-2 for 2018-19-20). sure, if the staff could sign, say, williamson after getting a commitment from liddell, they most certainly would; however, if a player drops out, it will likely be too late for a really good 2019 addition.

I would prefer Jackson-Davis but I would be satisfied with Liddel

I would actually prefer Lidell at this point

that's my thinking, too. when specifically looking at gaffney and kaleb, liddell may mesh a little better than someone who is pretty much a true center. liddell also satisfies some wing needs. furthermore, liddell rather than tjd is a nice buffer before securing a possible/probable commitment from loveday.
I was not thinking very clearly:wink: when I made my post. I guess I sort of forgot about Wesson and hopefully Loveday to follow. Liddel will be a much better fit because he will fill a role that is much needed right now whereas Jackson-Davis plays more around the basket and KW and may be a little Potter can fill that role for now.

Basketball gems on full display in Vegas on Thursday
ISAAC JOHNSON GOES TO 2021 CLASS

In one of the most impressive showings of the summer and against an absolutely loaded frontline that included Drew Timme and Victor Iwuakor of the Drive Nation bunch, Isaac Johnson was dominant. He hit timely 3s, finished at the basket, thanks to his sneaky athleticism, and made the appropriate read and play out of the mid- and high-post settings on the floor.

A skyscraping center that still needs to fill out in order to properly produce in the trenches, Johnson remains a unique pawn in an offensive system, due to his perimeter shooting skills paired with his rim-protecting abilities.

Following his contest on Thursday, Johnson told Rivals.com that he is down to a final six of BYU, Gonzaga, Utah, Ohio State, Stanford and USC. He will take his first official visit to Gonzaga, while the others are currently being set. From there, Johnson will spend two years on a mission, thus placing him in the 2021 class. A commitment should follow prior to the beginning of his high school season, and Gonzaga may have the slight edge since it is the only program with a visit date set.

Las Vegas Saturday: Ramsey to wait, a new star arises in Akron

(emphasis mine)
A NEW STAR IN AKRON

Like most 16-under games on a Saturday in Las Vegas, the atmosphere was not the liveliest. That changed quickly and it was not just due to the amount of talent on the floor thanks to the WACG bunch. The GOAT himself, LeBron James, walked through the door with a handful of friends, one of those being Maverick Carter, to take in the uberly-talented team featuring the potential number one prospect in the 2022 class, Chris Livingston.

A native of Akron that will be returning home for his high school ball this fall, Livingston is already being proclaimed as one of the best prospects to hit a high school playing floor within the past several years. He did struggle some on Saturday, settling for perimeter jumpers and forcing things that were not always there, but then again, whenever someone like James is watching, I don’t care how old you are, you’re going to press with the eyes of the king on you.

Standing over 6-foot-5 and with fine length and athleticism to him, Livingston has oodles of upside and potential in the backcourt. Already, UAB and Akron have offered and next month, he told Rivals.com that he will take an unofficial visit to Ohio State, his favorite school growing up.

While there may be a shadow that Livingston will have cast upon him, though not as big as James ever had, the talent and raw abilities will place the rising freshman into the spotlight from this day forward.

Las Vegas: Quinones dominates, talks high-level recruitment
In one of the best performances of the summer, Lester Quinones came out with a plan of attack. Competing against a trio of five-star prospects and with some of the most well-known names in coaching on hand, Quinones scored 37 points off of a variety of shots and finishes that only bolstered his standing as a national target.

...

Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA, Seton Hall, St. John’s, UConn, Maryland and Pitt are just a few programs that have invested a lot of time into the recruitment of the top-65 wing.

...

Ohio State: “Coach (Ryan) Pedon has been texting me a lot. They have been coming to some of my games lately. They have begun to start recruiting me pretty hard and that I am his top priority.”

...

WHAT'S NEXT?

Days away from the completion of his travel ball career, Quinones is ready to get down to business for his recruitment.

“No visits yet, but I am going to sit down and schedule some after this week and try to get to all of the schools that are close to home and start planning on a number of others that aren’t as close,” he said.

continued...

Switches hands to finish with his left in traffic at 14 years old? What?

LeBron athleticism but I like this kid’s form and release point better. Didn’t really highlight any passing but Livingston looks real special. Wow
I saw Lebron play in person in high school when he was a senior and he was more of a "power" player back then. In the game that I watched, he would just take guys to the basket. Never really showed an outside shot like Lester does. Just hard to believe that he is only 14 years old. Can anyone say reclassify a couple years
