OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

KBD is surely gone. I see 2 grad transfers.
I will link to an article about Ohio State basketball recruiting and where they might be going. The article says that they probably will take 1 grad transfer and maybe a "regular" transfer.
Ohio State basketball is about to feel the brunt of Thad Matta's recruiting losses: 2018-19 roster breakdown
Don't expect it to be another high school player in the Class of 2018. There are still some names out there, but the point isn't to maker Ohio State's youth problem worse. Plus Holtmann has been pretty adamantly against five-man recruiting classes, which would just create more future roster imbalance.

If/when Ohio State adds to its roster, it will be via the transfer market. The Buckeyes will have three available scholarships. Using all three would be surprising. Using two seems likely. Expect one of those to be an immediately-eligible graduate transfer. The other could be a normal, sit one year transfer.

The obvious profile of the graduate transfer is point guard, right? Not necessarily. A team source told cleveland.com that Ohio State is interested in perimeter players. Not necessarily a point guard, and that could mean a forward with some ball-handling skill if the fit is right.

this tells me a couple things. first, beggars can't be choosers. losing three wings scorers means we'll take what we can get without the stipulation of backcourt position. second, i think the staff sees both washington and muhammad as "competent enough" ballhandlers. any two of jackson/washington/muhammad should provide the sufficient ballhandling, scoring, and defense up top. throw in ahrens, jallow, and at least one ballhandling wingish player and we should be more than good to go. a point or combo guard would be great, but i think a scoring wing is more important than a point guard for next year.

Not sure what the ideal plan is, but one logical plan is 1 grad transfer forward and 1 juco guard. Chris has shown a willingness to explore all options, so there is probably not a set in stone "we need 1 grad transfer" or "we have to get 2 grad transfers" plan.

Joey is on a basketball scholarship because we have one to give out for the past season which would cover the past academic year (2017-18). The scholarship, like all athletic scholarships, are renewable from one year to the next. Joey is a walk-on player who the coach chose to give a scholarship. I suppose if we only sign 2 players for next year and Holtmann wants to give Joey the remaining scholarship. Joey Lane will then have a scholarship. If we have 13 players on scholarship without Joey, his scholarship will not be renewed.

Short answer, the grid you refer to is correct for the season 2017-18 but take Joey off for next season until we see how many scholarships are given.

Thanks for the clarification
