COLUMBUS -- Family, friends, teammates and coaches supporting Ohio State sophomore John Albert at Saturday's hockey game with Robert Morris at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday certainly won't be booing him. That sound is just them yelling "Shoot." The playmaking center and Concord native is the heart of the Buckeyes' top line, but as the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder and sixth-round draft pick of the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers seeks to reach his sport's elite level, OSU coach John Markell yells constant, simple advice.
"If you're in position to get a shot, let it rip," Markell said. "You've got to remind him to shoot the puck, shoot the puck, shoot the puck, shoot the puck. We work to get somebody in position to shoot and if you don't shoot, that's detrimental to the team. So he's got to be a little more selfish in that respect."
That doesn't come easy for "Generous John," the nickname slapped on him by his mother, Cindy, though that applies more to his habit of buying gifts for others.

"Most of the time it's with his Mom's money," said his father, John.

Men's Hockey
Icers Out To Avoid Mistake By The Lake
By Craig Merz

It?s a home game that?s not being played at home. It?s a nonleague game that could affect Ohio State?s chances to make the NCAA Tournament.
There?s much at stake for the streaking Buckeyes as they take their traveling show to Cleveland?s Quickens Loan Arena to play Robert Morris at 4 p.m. Saturday. A ticket to the game also gets admission to the American Hockey League that follows between the Iowa Chops and the Lake Erie Monsters with former OSU forward Tom Fritsche.
The game is a rematch of Ohio State?s 4-0 win over the Colonials on Nov. 14 at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. This is a technically a home game for OSU that was moved to Cleveland for an undisclosed but nice payout to the school.
