Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

the judge that gave De La Hoya the fight should have his license pulled. What a joke.

as far as a REAL fight goes instead of this joke scoring they have i would say oscar far and away got the better of him. he connected on far more power punches than mayweather. with that being said both did a great job defensively and neither one got real strong healthy blows on each other nor did they do any damage.

If you would score it like UFC maybe Oscar would have won, as far as boxing goes Floyd won pretty comfortably IMO.

true i know but for fighting purposes i would of gave it to oscar. floyd landed alot more punches but there was only 2-3 that were really of any significance.

Oscar landed 21% of his punches, Floyd was at 43%. Oscar threw over 100 more punches and Floyd landed around 100 more. Oscar abandoned his left jab at his own peril, it was working early as was the body punching. Floyd was sticking and moving all fight.

Same with Oscar, a lot of those punches were hitting glove/arm.

oh i'm not saying he had a lot but he had at least 2-3 decent ones when he charged floyd against the ropes. most he didn't land but he got some in. oh well i guess. hopefully there will be a rematch but frankly i don't see the rematch being much different as far as nobody getting any good blows in. they are both great and neither one let the other take over.

In boxing, the scoring is made by hitting your punches. Power adds a little, but for the most part power punches are for knocking a guy out.

Does a team that scores 3 td's from the 1 lose to a teams that hit a 80 yard TD pass for their only score. Nope. That is the was the sport is scored. If boxing was scored differently then Mayweather may have boxed differently. Yet he did what it takes to win in the way the sport it scored. Plain and simple. If you think Oscar should have won, then you have an issue with boxing in general, not the outcome of the fight.

for someone who doesn't follow boxing, this post is illuminating.

Mayweather might go down as one of the 10 greatest boxers ever. I'm just glad he beat Oscar. Oscar said Floyd's punches were Pit Pat, so why didn't you hit him when you guys were standing in the middle of the ring. Oscar would look at him for a minute then get hit by floyd.
