Orioles 2012 thread of pain and despair....

Getting blown out a few times and winning a ton of one-run games will do that.

Haven't they won something like 12 straight extra-innings games? That's ridiculous...

I'm happy to see the O's do well. Ripken was one of my favorite players as a kid, so I always kinda rooted for the Orioles...when not playing the Tribe, anyway.

Yeah they've won 14 in a row, including a 17 inning game and last night's 18 inning game. I'm kind of worried about tonight, as they face King Felix after a marathon game.

It's been kinda eerie since about mid-2010. Ripken became much more noticeable around the franchise, they hired Showalter and the team immediately started showing improvement. It didn't really show last year, but it definitely has this year.

Showalter absolutely has to be the manager of the year. I don't think there will be much debate.

With what looks to be a split tonight with the Blue Jays, the Orioles magic number is around 5 (fuzzy mental math included).

There are 9 games left for the Angels. The Wild Card can only be 6 teams now in the AL - the O's, the A's, the Skankees (if the O's by some miracle win the East), the Rays, the Tigers (or White Sox) or the Angels.

First off - the Tigers and White Sox aren't going to leap the 2 teams ahead of them for a Wild Card. Whoever wins that division is in while the loser is likely out.

The Rays are 5 back of the Orioles, and 3.5 back of the Rays. And that's with the Angels in between. That's a tall task for a team with limited offense and who has had to go on a tear just to get back into the discussion.

If the Orioles get to 93 wins I think they will be in. Now watch them go on a 9 game losing streak. 2 more @ Toronto, 3 vs. Boston and then 3 @ Tampa. If they somehow go 6-3 they will get in. Even 5-4 and I think they are good to go. Between the Orioles, A's and Angels, the Angels or the Orioles probably have the easiest schedule on the way in.

Hell, I'd live to see the O's take the East. Let the Skankees rot in the wild card game. Hopefully they end up there and get Bucky Dented out of the damn thing.

I'd be ok with that.

Just so long as whatever they do, they avoid the one game playoff on the cow pasture otherwise known as Oakland A's stadium.

If Texas doesn't choke and wins tonight against the Angels, the O's are in the playoffs.

Boston was kind enough to let the Orioles complete the sweep today.

Here's to Boston making the Skankees their bitch starting tomorrow.
