I think he's third in line, however, behind Saban and O'Brien.

Doubtful. He is THE hot name in coaching right now. He's gonna get a lot of attention. Kelly's innovative, has a track record, and is only in his mid-40s. Saban is in his 60s and has baggage in the NFL. O'Brien lacks the track record as a HC. They may all get offers, but I think Kelly gets the most attention and is most likely to jump.

A man that has had success after the fall of the USC empire but has...what, 1 meaningful bowl victory over a defensively incompetent Wisconsin...?

He runs a system that isn't conducive to the highest levels of play - he doesn't seem to hire defensive coaches that are worth a damn nor value playing that side of the ball.

Why is this man such a "hot name" to go to the NFL?

Schiano at least over-achieved with the talent he had while resembling a pro-style tailored offense.

My thoughts exactly.....I watched him in two bowl games

Tress choked him out like a boa constrictor...allowing him to move his arms and legs making him think he will live while slowly moving around his neck untill things went dark.

Auburn...blah blah same type of thing

He wouldn't be hiring coaches anyway. I don't see why that's relevant.

What's interesting to me is that he's said that he wouldn't run the same system in the NFL. All of the success he's had is a direct result of that system.

About 25 years ago, the Run-and-Shoot was all the rage in college. People said it wouldn't work in the pros. A couple of teams (Detroit, Houston w/Warren Moon, Atlanta under Glanville) ran it with some success for a few years before it died off.

Denver got to the playoffs, and won a playoff game, running the read-option last year.

His system probably could work if he can get the right players. The question would be, is it sustainable?

Wasn't it Glanville at Houston also?
The Oilers fired Glanville and replaced him with Jack Pardee (U of Houston, one of the big R&S schools) who brought it with him. Glanville brought R&S guru June Jones on as his OC in Atlanta to install it a year later.
