Oregon Ducks (aka U of Nike)

The University of Oregon and its student section each issued a public apology Sunday after an offensive chant took place during Saturday's 41-20 win over BYU at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. The Ducks' student section, in videos published on social media late in the Week 3 game, directed an anti-Mormon chant at BYU.

"The University of Oregon sincerely apologizes for an offensive and disgraceful chant coming from the student section during yesterday’s game against Brigham Young University," a statement from the university read. "These types of actions go against everything the university stands for, and it goes against the spirit of competition. We can and will do better as a campus community that has no place for hate, bias or bigotry."

"To all @BYUfootball fans in attendance at today's game we would like to apologize for the actions of the students in attendance," added the Oregon Pit Crew, the student section, in a statement on Twitter. "We do not condone or support any hateful speech directed towards one’s religion and are ashamed of those who participated."

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox took to Twitter Saturday when one of the videos surfaced and denounced the act.
