Oregon at tOSU, Sep 11th, Noon ET on Fox

Then how much do you want to lose? Remember 2014 when we lost to an unranked Va Tech by two touchdowns in the second game?

that game was on the offense and we had a task master in Urban Meyer who if need be would put himself in the DC’s room.
I’m not going to bet against the Bucks. I’ll eat my crow if they run the table. the last 10 days have not given me any reason to believe they can.

Or go back and watch the Air Force bowl game

Oh, god. I was awfully young and have managed to repress that game entirely. I have NO idea what my dad said while we were watching that game and that's probably for the best.

I think the writings on the wall that Coombs' job is on the line for the rest of the year. His only hope is that we hire a co defensive coordinator to design scheme and call plays and just let Kerry recruit. Some questionable calls going for it on 4th down but I think that shows lack of faith in the defense more than anything. Stroud is very good. Yes he threw a pick late and had a couple of missed balls but lots of drops and he kept us in it and he had a HUGE deck stacked against him. The offense has so many weapons but neither running back got hot which brings up the question why didn't we give Teague at least one series. Just straight up out coached and now there's game film on how to beat us defensively (although. Even i could draw up a scheme to beat our defense).. at this point I'd rather go to a new years six bowl than get housed 84-0 by Bama.. but hey, its early, we get a couple of tune up games before diving all in on the B1G schedule so maybe... just maybe.. this could turn out like 2014 but so far I see a 3 loss team

Many of us - me included - bought the line that we have so much talent experience doesn't matter. It does. Especially at QB.

I agree that the performance of the DL is hard to understand and I am willing to help gather kindling to celebrate Coombs performance today.

But here we are trashing a D that gave up 505 yards while simultaneously questioning the performance of a QB who engineered an offense that gained 612.

Oregon played a great game and deserves credit for it.

I love being a Buckeye. But it is tough when few wins merit celebration and any loss is considered a tragedy.

All the hype all offseason about this defense, especially the pass rush... jhfc, WTaF? I really also thought the LBs would be at least as good as last year's debacle. Obviously, wrong there. It's hard not to bang on the DBs, but I think they at least have more upside than last year's dumpster fire. So, we've got either an underachieving or vastly overrated DL, LBs who seem to be what they are, and DBs who are challenged and at the moment are not up to the task of stopping a few of the B1G teams, much less a playoff team. Something has to change.

I was spending the night over at my friend's house and we were watching the game. His dad stated going ballistic about mid-2nd quarter. Multiple "F#&K!!!!!", "GOD F#&KING DAMMIT!!!" with mom shouting "KEN, KIDS!" About 3 minutes into the 4th quarter he ripped his OSU tee-shirt off Hulk Hogan style. It was a wild scene.

yep “targeting” is basically whatever that particular ref crew on that given day wants it to be. Make a real fucking strict guideline to it that stays enforced or get rid of it

I think the holding call before that "targeting" play just makes it worse. To see both of those plays in favor of Oregon just wasn't consistent with the way the game was called to that point. Like a net-loss of 36 (take away Stroud's run, 10-yards for the alleged hold, loss of 15 yards for the alleged non-targeting) or so yards and forced to punt the ball. And it's the worst possible time in the game, mid- to late in the 4th quarter, for the refs to insert themselves into the narrative and outcome of a game. Like, if even one of those plays goes in favor of Ohio State (which clearly AT LEAST ONE should have) then the refs haven't single-handedly ended a significant drive themselves.

Could be worse, could be the Domers and down 18-14 to a MAC team.

Tough loss but early in the season, young team, and clearly some flaws being exploited that need to be fixed and a lot of that is on the coaches on the defense side and dialing up a more balanced offense and getting the run game in there. I’m just glad it’s football season again and enjoy it 1 game at a time!

One final real thought before I resume my shit-posting....God DAMN did Oregon play a great game on offense. A couple drops and a few penalties, but other than that? Nearly perfect. Not one pass even close to being intercepted. Not one fumble. They didn't get cute and abandon what was working. They didn't over think things. Heck of a gameplan and heck of a game.

Yes, there were more than a few high balls and over-throws, but CJS has my full support. You can't put a new starter in his second game in the position of having to bail the defense out over and fucking over. Neither Fields nor Haskins would've have won this one in their second games. By all means, we should get the other two (3?) snaps in the next couple of games, but I'd be shocked if there's any kind of QB controversy.
