Game Thread Orange Bowl: tOSU vs Clemson, Jan 3, 8:30 ET, ESPN

Alabama will not be ahead of us if we beat Clemson. If we beat Clemson (and if FSU beats Auburn), the final top four will be:

1. FSU
2. MSU
3. OSU
4. Auburn

If we win (and assuming FSU wins), it would be:

1. FSU
2/3 (depending on result). Auburn/MSU
4. OSU

If you look at the final poll historically, a team finishes no lower than #3 (ignoring ND who was embarrassed) if they lose the MNC. I suppose if Auburn gets curbstomped there's a chance they drop to #4, but otherwise they'll be #3 at the lowest, probably #2 still.

2009:
1 Alabama (60) 14-0 1500
2 Texas 13-1 1399
3 Florida 13-1 1370

2010:
1 Auburn (56) 14-0 1472
2 TCU (3) 13-0 1392
3 Oregon 12-1 1379

2011:
1 Alabama (55) 12-1 1495
2 LSU (1) 13-1 1425
3 Oklahoma State (4) 12-1 1399

2012:
1 Alabama (59) 13-1 1475
2 Oregon 12-1 1358
3 Ohio State 12-0 1302
4 Notre Dame 12-1 1288

One thing to note, at least with these 4 examples, is the team that lost went into the game undefeated.

My opinion: if FSU smashes Auburn, they will be a 2 loss team with the thinnest of margins away from being a 3-loss team.

If Ohio State wins nicely, then I see MSU and OSU being #2 and #3. Ohio State and MSU would both be one-loss teams.

as far as what might happen in tonight's game, my hope is that we come out with something different in our game plans. Something that shows we have been practicing and thinking about how to get better since we barely beat scUM and we lost to MSU.

The great thing about the Rose Bowl win over Oregon was we came out with this passing game plan that we hadn't seen that year since TP threw 4 picks against Purdue. It was evident that Tressel and staff had been busy coaching.

And, I would like the game plan to reflect that Braxton Miller is not Peyton Manning. He is not a great decision maker, and his NFL future is in slot, wide receiver, wild cat, whatever. Get him out of the pocket, please.

the game will hinge on the defense. And our defense hinges on our line play. I have all the confidence in the world in Bennett, Washington, Bosa, Carter, etc., to put pressure on the QB. And if Curtis Grant is in, rush him, too, because I just don't think he gives us much in space.

Also, i think Powell and Bell will do a good job, and I would also love to see Cam Burrows get some time. The guy has a playmaking style that may get him in trouble at times but also produces those Sports Center highlights. You know, the kind of plays where he doesn't listen to the coach, but his own instincts, instead.

Remember Miami's first possession eleven years ago? While Fouts was blabbering about how Dorsey had been sacked only eight times all year??? The Bucks got to him on the first play, and another play in that possession. That's what I want to see tonight.

Then, the offensive MVP can be Hyde.

OSU 34, Clemson 30.

Buckeye fans should think about doing this next season.
They gather $2 bills before they travel. They stamp the crisp bills with the Clemson Tiger paw logo. And they spend them.

James Carling, a 1994 Clemson grad who now lives in Pennsylvania, explained the tradition at a South Florida hotel on Thursday, an envelope filled with $2 bills and a paw stamp and orange stamp pad on the table in front of him. Carling orders his $2 bills from his bank months in advance of big games, knowing time is needed to acquire as many as he requires.
Why Clemson paw $2 bills are floating around South Florida for the Orange Bowl

Sarcasm? I don't see the point. Bowls KNOW that Ohio State brings the money. Ohio State is often (usually) one of the first at-large teams selected because they know that the fans will come. The fans will come into the city, spend money, go to the games, and come back next year. The fans will turn on their televisions. We don't need a gimmicky $2 bill thing. Seriously. You know what a dollar-bill tells me? It tells me that you want to say you're Mr. Moneybags, when, in fact, it's still only two dollars!

So you got 8 quarters instead of 4 for your bill. You get to ride the kiddie ride outside of Wal-Mart twice as many times as the rest of us.

None of those losing teams ended up with two losses, like Auburn would. No way would they stay shead of us if we win and they lose...
